So I got up this morning, went down to the kitchen, and holy mother of @$#% there's about 100 ants in there with me. Normal sized, black, winged ants. I put out solid ant bait, and they ignored it. I'm going to try the sugary terro stuff now, and I've sealed up their primary entry point (a vent on the floor) with duct tape, but that's obviously only a stopgap.

Also, they're not coming out of the vent itself, but the gaps between the vent and the floor, meaning they're under the @#$%ing floor. This would explain the random paratroopers that have been appearing all over the level, and even some in the basement.

Obviously I'm going to try every ant bait known to man, but is there anything else I can do short of an exterminator?

Same thing happened at my house a few months ago, they are still around but not as many but they are hard to get rid of, exterminator isn't doing much.

You can buy a spray that basically puts a DMZ down that the ants and other bugs stay out of. Not a solution, but it will keep the visible ants down until you can deal with them via fire or acid or whatever you choose.

I live on the second floor of an apt complex, I also had ants com in the other day killed them all and wiped down my kitchen with clorox wipes. No idea if thats effective but they're gone for now.

Oh God... the sad thing is I know what you're talking about Since when did Ikariam become normal OT lingo? Haha. And their military score is so high only because they've researched Bird's Flight.

But seriously, mix clorox with water in 1:20 ratio and spread all the ants down, and wipe all the cracks and entry points as well. Ants hate that shit.

QFT. Whenever we find ants in the kitchen I just spray them with some Clorox Clean-Up (contains enough bleach to smell like bleach) and try and spray wherever they came from on the counters. He's always but it works AND I clean the counters at the same time. Ants: 0, Me: 2.

The winged ants are a mating-flight & arn't interested in eating which is why they ignore your baits ... they will soon be gone but the issue is the colony under your floor they came from.

Try the bleach method as suggested above first (since its none-toxic) but be prepared to also have to use a perimeter spray and/or more ant-baits to actually get rid of them ... also make it a point to wrap all food in plastic bags & keep your kitchen very clean.

It is hard to tell from your pictures, but you need to verify that these are in fact ants and not termites.

I had a really bad ant infestation in my bathroom.
We would always notice that there were ants in the bathroom, but it was alwyas one here or there, and we assumed they were getting in through the window or something.
When we remodeled the bathroom and started tearing everything down, they were everywhere, especially in the walls behind the shower in the floor under the shower. I'll never forget how many of them there were, I must have spent 30 minutes straight with a vaccum sucking them up. Everytime it looked like they were gone and we pulled off more of the wall there were more.
