Hi everyone i juste ordered a AMD 64 2800+ along with an Abit kv8 motherboard. I am in need of some DDR 3200 512MB memory because my current memory is 2100. Anyawys, what would you guys recommend for the price range say $70-$90. I dont' want to buy the expensive stuff like Corsair XMS memory. Anyways here what ive narrowed it down to so far:
Mushkin
Geil Value with heatspreader
Corsair Value
KingMax

So far im favoring the mushkin. Is this what you guys would get or would you recommend something else on my list/ not on my list?

I would like to overclock the bus, if possible, the bus on my new system to the 220's.

thanks,
Ncage

I think some will suggest getting the OCZ enhanced latency.

I haven't tried it myself but the benchmark looks promissing although running at CAS 2.5 compared to the Mushkins and Corsairs that have CAS 2

The cheapest one between the Mushkin and Corsair Value, so that is the Mushkin. I'm unsure about the quality of Geil and Kingmax. Peace.

I wouldn't expect to be able to OC much with cheap RAM. To OC you need ALL high quality components: mobo, CPU, PSU, memory, etc. For memory in that price range, just go with the Mushkin or Corsair and forget about overclocking. If you want to get out of that price range, go with the OCZ EL that the other dude was talking about, that is good stuff. But I think it runs like $170.

I'd go with Crucial. Quality stuff, good price. I would NOT pay more for low latency stuff, it buys you nothing on an A64.

Ok i just want to make a comment. Thanks to the guys who gave recommendations on memory near my price range. For those who were trying to get me to buy the near $200 sticks of memory. Why in the world would i buy such expensive memory to get my system just to the level of the amd 64 3000+ when i could have just bought that processor? Thats what i really don't understand why some overclockers spend so much money that they are spending more than what the more expensive processor would cost them. Im not bashing overclockers here at all. When you can get a cheaper components and push them then you should. I have a athlon xp 2100xp pushed to 2600xp levels but thats with mostly stock components except for a high end heatsink & fan; Thermalengine pro with a 7000 rpm fan. I just got plain jaine crucial memory which worked fine.

Anyways enough of that. I ended getting a stick of geil value with heat spreader. I went and read reviews on the net and i didn't find one bad review. All of them were great. One reviewer got his memory up to 255mhz stable. When you go to newegg and look at the personal reviews...overall this memories reviews are great. So i decided to give it a try.

To those of you who think you have to have high end memory to OC then you are mistaken. I ended up getting Geil Value RAM with heat spreader (DDR3200). I put my system together last night. My original goal was to OC the 64 2800+ as high as a 64 3000+ well last night i increased the bus speed to 223 and everything was rock solid stable. I even ran Prime95 all night last night with no errors or a crash just goes to show you if you get good value ram then it will work perfectly. BTW, i read very good reviews on this RAM and thats why i decided to get it. I actually am probably going to get another stick here real soon.

I've got 2x 512 DDR2100 of the Mushkin basic that I don't even think they sell anymore. I've got it at 333 for an 800 Mhz overclock on my 3.2e.

I have 2 of the mushkin 512 sticks you linked to above, and I have to say they kick @ss for the money. Work great in pairs and are very quick wihtout paying an arm and a leg.

Side note since you are looking at A64, the Mushkin sticks work perfectly in my MSI Neo Platinum nforce3 board. I haven't overclocked it but I can vouch for the Mushkin's bang-for-the-buck.

Hope that helps.

If it's of any relevance to yah, I've got the A64 3000+ w/cheap K*Byte RAM I got at Best Buy and I've actually had it up to 2500MHz... though it's not terribly stable... I also have the K8V motherboard; I keep the clock around 2300 just to make sure I don't push anything else in the system too hard and I haven't had a single problem so far! Best of luck to yah, they're some great parts!
