What a good mid-range GPU (either brand) that can hold over until the mid-range Pascal gpu come out?
What are you playing, and what is your budget? The specs for the rest of your machine would help, too.
I want to play all the newest game at 40 fps on a 21:9 monitor
I don't have a build yet but GPU is always the most expensive component of any computer. I don't have a budget but I do have a requirement and standard when it come to PC gaming and the 980Ti is not good enough so I just want a mid-range gpu to hold me over until pascal mid range gpu.
Edit: Is there any mid-range gpu for around $200?
The $200 market belongs to the GTX960 or R9 380... but you'll be disappointed if 'the 980Ti is not good enough.'
I would get your rig built first and then assess where the market is on GPUs...
It can't max out 4K and if your going to spend $600 plus on a GPU, it should be able to max out everything.
By what logic? SLI / Crossfire has been a thing for 10+ years now, during which no single GPU has been good enough for the most demanding resolutions and settings available, you've always needed two GPUs. And even that, historically, hasn't always been enough to 'max out'.
I guess it not all about maxing out, but every new game that come out, I keep hearing the PC community complaining about poor optimization even with a gtx 980ti such as Ark: Survival Evolve, X-Com 2 and it make me not want to spend big bucks when these top of the line GPU is still so disappointing.

Hmm that not bad but can I run 21:9 1440p resolution at say around 30 fps (being realistic) at around low to medium graphic say for games like the Witcher 3?
