I was 27 and felt it was a bit late, considering the cost of living in my area and my field. I simply was not assertive enough to really advance my career like many others can do. I'm more laid back and sort of let people take advantage of me.

No property tax in Clinton? Looks like I need to move a few miles north.

It's all sales tax (7.2% + local 2%).

I live about 15 miles south of him, so I have the same sales tax. We have a $2.46/$100 property tax as well.

As I mentioned I live in NY suffolk county not that I am living in posh area or NYC but the COL is pretty darn high I used to live in the midwest Missouri but that place was shit and the money wasnt great either. I usually try to save up 50% of me net income and have been successful so far but its not gonna get me a good house in a decent neighborhood in the long run. I personally come from a very affluent family but I have given everything up and plan on making my own fortune. I paid for my Masters and have not contacted home for money since 2nd year of undergrad college but even getting to the level my parents were at my age seems futile in a engineering career...... Though I have some advice from my father.... you will never get rich while working for someone else..... I didnt see the wisdom of this statement at an earlier age but now I hate to admit it that he is correct...

Base, not this year, maybe 3-5yrs depending on how my raises go or if I move out of the company. But with my bonus I may even break it this year. I'm 24 at the end of the year and in Trading Support. I got lucky at the last job (I had no clue you could make a decent amount with 18months+ experience if you have skills) that allowed me to get even more lucky with my current job! Luck FTW! I wouldn't have broken $70 for years at my first job, software testing.

The £ is very strong against the $ also.

As for getting rich? Sod it. I'd rather not be rich and work relatively standard hrs and enjoy the company benefits (the team and they don't frown upon you if you go out to lunch and train!), atmosphere etc. Much less stressful imo.

I wont until I top out in pay and work tons of overtime. Oh well, I'll forever have a job. The markets up? I have a job. The markets down? I have a job. I think it works out in the end.

I'm sure this has already been stated several times...but this is such a relative benchmark...that it's pointless to post on a global or even national board.

In New York City, this number is only a reasonable starting salary these days...where as there are plenty of places in the US where that amount of money is equivalent to living like a King. Not to mention that as our dollar depreciates and inflation keeps increasing at the rate it does...100K is no longer the benchmark it may have been 20 years ago when the "six figure income" became a popular mark of success.

Not to mention that posting your income on a web forum is the pinnacle of e-penis flexing. Which is why it is so popular on ATOT and everyone here makes that magical "six figure income".

Oh yeah...one more comment...wealth is not how much you make...but how much you don't spend.

Most of the members who claim to be making 100k are lying. Don't feel bad, it only means that you're not a liar.

this is a very stupid question, everyone knows that every atot'er hit 100k by 18 and were supporting themselves at 16!

Probably one of the more poorly timed, stupidest thread (even if it's a joke) I've ever seen. Times are tough, people are losing their houses, their jobs and their minds (like the OP). To ask the question assumes that a number of users actually make $100K or more and that they would actually tell you about it.

I as well as many here broke that during the housing market height and now am back at square 1.

I do buy my cars with cash though. Why finance and pay premium insurance when you could save up 30k in a couple of years and just buy the car with cash.

I have been a member of AT for quite awhile, and I have noticed that threads like this seem to pop up much more often on this forum than on others I frequent. I'm not sure why the members of this board in particular are so obsessed with having dick-measuring contests. This goes for both the members who lie about their job/income/savings and the ones who tell the truth. Both groups seem to have something to prove to everyone else, and/or derive some pleasure from knowing they are better off than others.

I frequent fatwallet and the diehards investment board, two boards devoted to making more money, and yet the members there are much more tactful when it comes to discussing these topics.

lol@ dud.

Everything posted on OT is a joke. My ebay is doing really well right now ($800/week net) but that will only last so long. On the other hand, if I keep it up and grow, who knows where I will end up.

may have to do with the nature of the forum in question. Those are 'serious investment' boards whilst this is a neffing forum.

define 'much more tactful?'

most AT members don't have the looks thing going for them, so they try to measure their success in gold.

Third year of working.
First year I made $42000. Second year I made 45000, third year I made $48000.
At the end of year three, I made $135,000. (42000+45000+48000=135,000)

By "much more tactful", I mean the members do not start threads or make posts blatantly asking how much money people make, how much money they have in their investment/retirement accounts, how much their house is worth, etc., despite the fact that the overall theme of the board is sharing investment strategies.
