What AGP card should I get?

I am looking to upgrade my video card but I want to stay 8x APG so I don?t have to upgrade my mobo. I want to stay in the $250 range, I wanted to go with the GeForce 6800 GT but it seems all the ones priced around my range are out of stock.

I was also thinking about the x800 xl but it is pretty much the same price as the GeForce and from what I have read the GeForce performs better in benchmarks. I know the 6600 gt is a good price card, but I just don?t feel it performs well enough, along with the x800 gto.

My question is what should I go with for around $250 (plus or minus a bit wouldn?t hurt) that will give me high performance with new games?

(I mostly run World of Warcraft, but also play HL2 and doom3 quite a bit)

TIA for any help!

x800xl AGP goes for 275 on Newegg.

If you can splurge 50 more, X850XTPE goes for 300 on Zipzoomfly.

I agree with these guys, x800xl if you can't find a 6800GT instock for your price range.

Below that, best off with a 6800nu for $150-$175. Nothing inbetween is worth it for AGP.

Got an XL used for $200 on the forums. Definitely an option.

x800xl is a fine card but regarding the massive price dumps the x850xt has seen iam votin for it over the x800xl. The XL indeed showed a very stable price range, i mean in february when i bouth mine it was 290 Euros. today its slightly under 250Eur where i live. X850XT is the better deal, try to find a cheap model.
and a word to the 6800gt, it has VERY minimal better fps but on the other hand alot less image quality - if u open ur eyes and look closely for it. i know the flamewar mite be starting right now again, but whatever.

and dont think about the 6600gt, if u want to buy in the 150$ range, look at the x800gto. its outperforms.

Newegg has an ATI All In Wonder X800XT for 299$, if you are into the AIW features and can extend your budget a lil bit that should be a nice choice otherwise a X800XL or 6800GT (which is awfully hard to find in AGP) should be right on.

6800GT. IMO better driver interface.

x800XL, x850XTPE are good too.

and cooler stated that x1800XT/XL comes out in a couple of weeks for AGP. maybe wait until then? or do you need one now?

also check FS/FT or hot deals, im sure someone is selling a 6800GT.

oh yeah...black friday too! only video card i saw that is even worth mentioning is a pci-e x800xl for 200 and a x700 pro for 100 bucks (or 200 i forget).

x1800xt AGP seems overkill.... spend the money for a new motherboard and PCI-E...

That will be way above his stated price range...but here's what i really want to know: Since when are the X1800s coming in AGP?!
Yes, i know about the Diamond card, but they have since fixed their site's mistake from what i've seen, meaning, no, they don't have an AGP X1800 card planned.

Info, linkage on this please

I am running a GeForce FX 5700LE 256mb right now, If I were to go the cheaper route (6600gt or x800gto) would I notice a big diference over my current card?

Also what is the 6800nu? All I know of is the GT, and Ultra.

What ever I get I want it to be 256mb, I see alot of 6800GT AGP's that are 128, but the 256's seem alot harder to come by for a decent price.

Right now I am thinking the X800GTO is the way to go, does the 6600GT only come in 128?

anyone? Still not sure what a 6800nu is, and if a 128mb 6800 or 6600 will perform alot better than my 256mb FX5700LE.

TIA

6800nu is a Geforce 6800, nu means non-Ultra (or GT). These cards generally have 4 of the 16 pipelines and 1 out of the 6 shaders disabled, with roughly 50% of success of software being able to re-enable them. The 6800nu typically clocks at around 325MHz (note GT and Ultra use higher speeds) and the memory interface is DDR instead of GDDR3 as on the GT/Ultra.

It's not all bad though - a few months back, an X800XL 256MB AGP card found it's way home, but after benchmarking it against my 6800nu/128MB/AGP, I returned it as the 6800nu performed better overall on my X2/Neo2plat system. Before buying my 6800nu a year ago, I'd tried out a 6600GT and the 6800nu was noticeably faster for the extra $50.

You could certainly save some money by going with a 6800nu over a GT or X800....

Both articles at the Inq and Xbit Labs, never quoted anyone from Diamond about the x1800 in AGP. It seems that they used the webpage as their primary source. They have since changed the website to PCI-E slot only. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think any x1800 will be released in AGP.
