I am at my wits end right now. I have tried all I can try. In the monitor setting in CC it says my max res is 1920x1080, which my screen does show when I play my Xbox 360. it switches to that res.

CC says my max res is that, but in all my games, new and old, the max I can go up to is 1280x1024. I could understand 1-2 games because of their age, but I replaced this with a old 1900GT and it did all the res with no problems, but this one has me pissed off, because in games like NFS PS, or bioshock for example, they are locked at no higher then 1280x1024.

What could I have done wrong? I did a fresh install, I have updated my drivers, several time. I have run a reg cleaner to be sure nothing from anything old, like old drivers, can be corrupting the system as I update it, and yet, I can change my desktop to 1920x1080, I cant get a single damn game to go that high.

Please help!

In windows is fine?

I believe NFS series does not see widescreen resolutions normally

Did you use driver cleaner, and have you installed drivers for the monitor too just in case

My monitor has no drivers for it, its a Optoma H31 projection.

I used NFS as an example. It doesnt matter if it is widescreen or 4:3, it wont go higher then 1280x1024 in anything but my desktop settings.

googling Optoma H31:
Compatibility. HDTV 1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i, and computer resolutions up to SXGA. Full NTSC / PAL / SECAM.
Specifications. 850 ANSI lumens, 3000:1 contrast, native 16:9 widescreen format, 854x480 resolution DLP chip with a 4x speed, six-segment color wheel.

SXGA = 1280x1024

I use the dvi port, and hd cables from my xbox 360, it does 1920x1080I, I can even get it to do that res in my desktop, and again my old X1900GT was able to play all my games over 1280x1024.

If that rez was the case, then I never could get my 360, or desktop to go over that, or my X1900GT to do 1920x1080 as well.

Hence what you already posted:

Have you tried using a normal computer LCD or CRT monitor to see if you get the same symptoms??

But the actual resolution can go no higher than 854x480. Can you set it to 854x480? The projector may be able to accept a higher input, but the output is limited to 854x480, so why do you want to set it higher?

Because it still will simulate 1920x1080, so it wont look like its running at 860x848 and look as though Im playing old PS2 or xbox games on it. Its normal tv res is 860x848, or pc at 1280x1024, but will scale down anything higher then that. But if you play your games at higher res on a DLP tv, and let it scale down it will look a ton better,, almost as though it is in HD.

ALSO with a DLP tv, vs lcd, or plasma, the diff between HD and mine, and HD LCD and Plasma, is the amount of pixels, but once you go past 15 feet with a dlp projection your eyes cannot tell which is running in HD and which is not. The only benefit of owning a HD dlp projector is you can get closer to the screen before you see the pixel, but at normal viewing distance, they look completely identical.

As for trying it in my rig here at the desk, I was going to see if it does it or not, and then stick back in my X1900GT back in as well and see if it is going to do the same thing or not. I know it didnt, I was running my 4:3 games on my PJ at 1600x1200.

thats why Im so upset that I couldnt get it to do any higher then 1280x1024 with my new card. A ton of my older 4:3 games I been dying to put at 1600x1200 on a 100"screen with all the eye candy pumped up for the first time. Then I was like WTMF is this 1280x1024 shit
Why are all my games going no higher then that? I wanted to play my WS games at 1920x1080 like my 360 does and see which looks better with the same games running. But I cant do that. I even tried using the component cables from my card to the rig just like the 360 uses and still I can get the desktop to go to 1920x1080, but still all my games run at 1280x1024.

Im pretty good with this stuff, and its got me very stumped. It should be running games that high if the desktop can do it, the card shows in CC, and does with the desktop the 1920x1080 res along with my 360, it would seem to me to think that it should game at that as well, especially since the X1900gt was able to and its a older card.

Regardless of the resolution you input into your HD31 or what it claims to be outputting, the highest output resolution physically possible for this projector to display is its native resolution of 854x480 (480p) ... it can't actually display 1920x1080 or even 1280x1024 for that matter based on the specifications on Optomo's website & thus isn't an HD display device. (480p = EDTV)

According to Optoma's website, the lowest model they sell that REALLY displays in HD is the 1280x720-native HD65 & in order to REALLY display at 1080p you would need to step up to the 1920x1080-native HD-81LV.

I suggest that rather then spinning your wheels trying to do the impossible, you would be better served creating a custom .inf file for your PC which supports your projecters native resolution since this should result in the highest IQ. Btw you can also use this method to add 1920x1080 to your PC's display driver settings, but again no matter what you do your projecter won't display that resolution.

Edit: You should be able to create custom output resolutions from within your display driver, but if you have problems using that method I suggest trying Powerstrip.

How about you simulating the higher resolution in software instead of resolution? Just enable the highest level of anti-aliasing you can do. The end result is the same, a low resolution display that "looks" higher resolution. It should be worth trying.
