10 years of building systems now. Flip flop back/forth between Intel and AMD every few years. I built an original Athlon Slot A system (frustrating). Flipped to a P4 a few years later. Had a couple of Athlon XPs in my backup rigs. Dumped Intel for Athlon 64 Newcastle which kept me happy until Core 2 came out. Most recent 3 years with a Socket 775, but now I'm back with AMD. I'd probably still be using my Core2 Quad, but my 3 year old P35 motherboard started having fits and I couldn't really find a replacement board that wouldn't require me to get DDR3 as well. So, time to switch.
Last week, I grabbed a Phenom II 1055T from my nearby Microcenter along with MB and Memory. I debated getting an 1156 board and an I5 760, but without Microcenter's bundle discount, the price was quite a bit more. Given that both the 1156 and the AM3 are near the end of their lives, I chose the cheaper option. Sold my Core 2 Quad for a bit more than paid for the 1055T.
I'm happy to be back with AMD. Even though the 1055T doesn't win in many benchmarks, it is just cool to say I have a hexacore!
