What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

EDIT: Too quick on the post button today. I wouldn't expect anything else. I've lived in New England for the last 26 years. WICKED PISSA!

"That's a Southern accent you've got there. You may love it, you may hate it, you may swear you don't have it, but whatever the case, we can hear it."

Outside of living in Maryland for four years, I have lived in NJ, NY, and CT for the rest of my life.

Cool quiz!

"You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

wtf? "Your Result: Philadelphia"

I was born and raised in Central IL and moved to DFW TX when I was 13 (now 20).... how do I have a Phildadelphian accent?

"The Midland" and "The South" were the next two on the list though.

Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

I lived in Oklahoma most of my life, but have spent significant time in the midwest, north and south (currently Atlanta). I have no real accent, but sometimes I'll let out a few words that sound a little "country."

I got the Midland too, it seems to be the most common.

I am surprised we didn't get any southern accents in here. I was laughing when they had the "pin" and "pen" question... also reminded me of "crick"=creek, and how often "ow"=er(ie: window=winder)...also, my friend's parents from Cleveland, my gosh...they pronounce "Washington" as "Warshington", bugs the heck out of me!

Another problem with this test is what you could call, "nationalization"...kind of like globalization in which people from all over this nation are moving to bigger cities for whatever reasons and getting more connected, usually for jobs. Hence the accents of that region could get washed out over time or less distinguishable.

For example, I have some family up in Boston(Cambridge), they were telling me how so many people from outside of that region move there, and it's not as common as you'd think to bump into someone with that distinct Boston accent anymore.

I am personally from North Arlington(touches Washington, DC), born and raised. People from all over move there, but I still say "soda", FTW!!!

100% true.

But not really for me. Most people tell me that they can't place my accent at all, even the Midwest "twang". My parents are from Michigan, but we spent ten years in New Jersey before moving to Atlanta for my high school years. So, I pretty much neutralized my accent, though I have some words here and there that are regional.

My wife found a really good quiz a little while ago. I'll have to ask her where it is.

Midland. Grew up in NC and lived in Raleigh most of my life. My parents, family, and most of my friends have a pretty typical NC accent (some really thick); but I've never had it. Most out-of-towners who visit or live in NC think I'm from somewhere else, so I'd say this is pretty accurate.

Although, after living in Chicago for the last 4 years, the occasional person will think I have an accent. At least I don't have one of those vile midwestern accents. Holy sh1t, I'd have to kill myself!

At least I know what "pop" isn't; and what "BBQ" really means...
