Xiaomi Mi 5 has a snapdragon 820, full hd 5.15" screen, 3000mah battery. Sony Xperia z5 compact has a snapdragon 810, HD 4.6" screen, 2700mah.
Galaxy S7 Edge, best SOC with very large battery and you can change resolution without root using Game Tuner.
Are there any benchmarks that show what sort of battery life gain you can get by tweaking the resolution down as low as it will go?
Huawei mate 8? Kirin 950 is no slouch with a giant 4000mah battery, and if you want, you can downscale the resolution to 720p for a lot more battery life. My SOT is about 10hr with moderate use under normal resolution so with the 720p screen option you're probably looking at 12hr SOT.
That's true, but then again synthetic benchmark is not always indicative of real life performance. If you can find an SD820/exynos8890 powering a 1080p screen with a big battery then by all means go with that route. The Kirin 950 is still very much capable of handling most mobile games out there so I wouldn't rule it out.The Chinese Socs always skimp on the GPUs. The Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 are way faster in that regard. 400+ GFlops for the 820 vs 100+ GFlops for the Kirin 950.
