I wouldn't exactly call it an annoyance but I'm a little surprised at the slow adoption of a moneyless society. That is the complete replacement of paper and coin with plastic.

But I noticed there are some con factors involved in doing so, the one that takes the cake is privacy.
Anyone will know what you are buying if fiat currency is eliminated.
Another benefit of having fiat is, even if technology increases ten-100 fold, fiat currency isn't subjected to changes.
But all in all, the reason why fiat hasn't gone away is because of the federal reserve, has to do with the money heads from different banking institutions. You could pretty much call them the cartel.
