The cpu has a thermalrite k8 boost hsf on it with as

Updasted bios and temps idle are around 46c

Be sure you have the "cool and quiet" feature enabled. If you do, then I wouldn't remount the heatsink or do anything unnecessary. My msi board gives unusually high readings for a 2.8c (53c at idle, up to 80c under load), but the same cpu is at least 10-15 degrees cooler in another board. It's just a bios problem.

Cool and quiet is the tech for A64 processors that allow them to clock themselves down by lowering the multiplier to save energy and put out less heat. In response to this the mobo will also turn down your fan, so that your comp becomes cool and quiet (creative terminology, isn't it? ). I don't recommend installing it though, because you never really get 100% performance back after you install the drivers from it. If you don't demand alot from your computer, go ahead, its a great feature.

Forget the cool and quiet. I have the same CPU and the same HSF, and I get 32c idle and 40c full load. Maybe the mobo is reporting high ????

ive been wondering if the hsf latch is down all the way. Or is it tight enough 85% latched. On the kv8 there is a hood over the mosphets. The latch stops before its all the way latched i beleive

under full load the temps get to 59c
its funny. The temperature reading furst gos from like 54c to 59c. Then i stop prime 95 and it goes from lie 59c to 54c then within 20 sec is down to 45

If your system temp is 36C, your idle temps are going to be in the 40's. If you've got it down to 46C then thats only 10C over your system temp. I'm not too sure but I don't think that is uncommon.

Try to lower your system temp, maybe you need better airflow in your case.

well i reaplied AS and the system temp is 33.0 but 63-66 cpu under full load. What the hell is up. I updated the bios. Does this seem right?? Is my board reading very high. I applied a bad to the center of the cpu and put onthe heatsink like AS recommends. Its about 75-80F in here

i seem to be having a similar problem w/ my msi k8n neo plat. and the same processor. it says it's running 65 C idle w/ stock hsf. ouch. and updating my bios requires flashing or something i dont know how to do.

My house is constantly hovering around 80-85F, with the stock retail HSF my cpu idles 40-43c and maxes up to 50c. Your temps should be lower than mines if you run A/C on all day. BTW abit boards do overstate by +10c.
