What are good headphones for movie watching ?

What would be a decent pair of headphones for watching dvd movies on pc with creative
2zs ?


I'm not that picky about price but I dont' want someting that i can plug directly into pc (i.e., no amp). The headphones I have now work great with games but the bass is a
bit weak and clearity kind of sucks. Btw the focus is movies not music

Grado SR60 or SR80 are great headphones that don't require an amp.

Not sure about the waveform - I just want the movies to sound really good

I should note that the headphones I use for games are Koss ur-19 and labtech 835 and both sucks for movies - though the koss is better. The koss biggest problem is that the bass is weak and the voices aren't crystal clear.

I should also mention that I listen in a quiet area so the headphones don't need to block out noise.

I use Sennheiser HD-600's. The 595's are cheaper and more "forward", which might help for movie clarity.

Will they work without an amp? Yes, usually (unless the output is really bad). Would you do better with an amp / device with good output? Probably.

Edit: My "real" headphones are Stax. But these are light for the size, comfortable, and far less delicate (and more easily replaceable), so I use them say 95% of the time.

Don't get a sealed design if you don't need the isolation -- I think they can create additional pressure on the ears.

They are in two different classes in terms of accuracy. Once you start at the HD570 (the bottom end with the same drivers, but the worst tolerances), the diminishin returns curve starts ramping up. 570, 580, 590, 595, 600, and 650 all exhibit very similar (but progressively tighter frequency response, and less deviation of FR response between the left and right channels).

Hmm if my desktop was still alive I would email you the FR response curves as I have all of them, but unfortunately I'm on my laptop as my Neopower 480W modular recently cooked my comp ;(

If isolation is not an issue I recommend the HD570s. For closed cans I thoroughly enjoy my 770/80s.

I didn't see a price range mentioned so I picked out the inexpensive ones that I use to watch movies.

Granted, they were suggested to me for music, but I watch movies more than I listen to music and I love them for movies.

They are closed, but they are super comfy and sound great.

zZounds is also a great place to deal with. I have ordered many times from them with no problems. They also have a 30day return on those headphones. Don't like them...send them back.

I use the HD 555's, after a quick ponder over the main Hi Fi Headphone forums, it's a sure winner.
Many users recommend this set as it's the entryway to being an audiophile without spending mega bucks.

I use them myself and cant recommend them enough, certainly the most comfortable headphones I've ever used. You can literally wear them for hours and literally not notice.
Sound qualitities very precise, and though at first it seems base is a little lighter then most, after a few hours of burn in it really starts to kick in.
I've tried my freinds Grado SR60, but for the sheer comfort/price/performance the HD 555's take it.

Personally I feel anything above the 555's is starting to get way too pricey for meagre DVD/Gaming use.

I had the hd555 burned them in and have to say they didnt impress me as much. Not to say they arent a good headphone but I have to say my radioshack titaniums sounded way better. I hooked my cmoy amp up and still radioshacks were better. They are a koss rebadge but I would try them out if you can get to a local radioshack. Worst case scenario take them back but I have to say I had the hd497s right before these and when i put on the radioshack ones I was very impressed, and i loved my hd497s.
I want to get the hd595s. I once ordered the 650's but the company didnt want to tell me the were back ordered til a week later so i got pissed off and cancelled and did some more research and found the 555's to be suitable. The 595s are said to be more agressive then the 600 or 650s. the 600 series is for laid back listening so if all else get the 595's.
