What are some good PC games for a 7 year old girl?

I'm thinking something like an adventure game, like a simpler version of Myst. Something to stir the imagination but also possibly promote some learning.

I've tried with a Leap pad, she just doesn't seem to get into it. She always wants to play on the computer but I can't ever seem to find anything for her.

I grabbed some adventure games out of a budget bin at a local retailer last week only to find that I had purchased four pieces of junk that could barely be called games.

There has to be something of quality on Steam or something for younger kids. Or maybe 7 is still too young? I know that there are games on websites like Nickelodeon, PBS kids etc... But I'm looking for an actual fully fledged game. Not a series of mini-games.

Any ideas?

The old standby, any of the Lego games are good. There are a whole bunch of them. I enjoyed playing Lego Star Wars with my grandson. They even allow split screen co-op, so you could play with her without a second computer or buying two games. Also the Sam and Max adventure games are good. A lot of good humor, a bit more mature than the lego games, but I dont think they would be bad for a 7 year old. You might have to help her with some of the puzzles though.

There are also a lot of semi-educational kids games like the Jump Start Series, Pajama Sam, Freddy Fish, Curious George, etc.

Some really fun casual games are:

Peggle
Luxar
All the lego stuff
Brothers - A tale of two sons (awesome game, you can both play and help each other)
Plants vs Zombies
PixelJunk - Monsters

Some other tower defense games like Defense Grid are a bit harder but really fun and basic

What does she like?

The LEGO series of games cover some great territory and are quite fun to play. Grab a couple controllers and make it a team thing. Every now and then Steam sells them for huge discounts... $5 per games makes it tempting to grab ALL of them!

GTAV and BF4 because pcgamingmasterracehardcoreparkour60fpsviolence.

Otherwise the studio HeroInteractive makes some fun flash games. Pixel is beautiful, though a bit easy. If you're looking for more educational games I know a series of games I loved. I'll try and find them.

Honestly minecraft might be a good choice. Really creative and open. A game you two might be able to play together is planetside 2. It's an MMOFPS rated teen so YMMV depending on your parenting style. It's pretty non-violent for a fps.

Also a +1 for Lego.

EDIT: Poster above got it. Jumpstart is the educational games I loved. Pretty awesome for an educational series from what I remember.

The Rayman games are fantastic- Rayman Origins and Legends. They're sidescrolling 2D, not 3D, which makes it easier for a beginner gamer to understand and get to grips with. They get quite hard later on though, so she may struggle to finish the game.

Great. Thanks guys. I'll have to start by taking a look at the Lego games since those seem to be the most popular here.

I haven't been able to figure out what she likes yet. She always asks to play a game on the computer but after an hour of trying different things out it always ends in disappointment for her. Outside of electronic devices, she likes matching games and puzzles. She really likes stories from books as well which leads me to the thought of looking for some kind of adventure game.

-Scribblenauts: Unlimited (2d game - teaches them how to spell words - it's a platform game - but allows you to create objects whenever you want if you can type them in. For example, a jumping puzzle you can type in "airplane" and it will spawn an airplane that you can fly over the puzzle, etc. I'd say this game should be mandatory in schools. It's perfect for 2nd/3rd graders.)

-Psychonauts (3d game - more of a adventure/platform game - Reminds me of Harry Potter in a way.)

-Bastion (I know nothing of this game - 8 year old in the house asks to play it on GF's computer - looks sort of like old school NES Zelda)

-World of Goo (2d physics puzzle game, but may be too hard for her, the 8 year old can't handle the puzzles after board 2 or 3, but if she doesn't have ADHD she may be able to handle it.)

Depending on her reading level, turn based RPGs could be good. The gameplay won't be too bad, and there's usually a good story to go along with it.

Maybe Child of Light, Septerra Core, etc. Even emulating games like Final Fantasy VI could be good.

Not games like Baldur's Gate and Fallout.

Syberia is a fantastic adventure game.

I second the LEGO games, Plants vs. Zombies, and Bejeweled 3.

She is struggling a bit with her reading so Scribblenauts might be a good choice.

Thanks, and thanks for suggestions from everybody else as well.

Skipsneaky is right about bejeweled. If she like puzzles that's a good game. I'll also up scribblenauts. I've blown over 200 hours an the first and second ones. There are lots of good recommendations here even for people over 7.

There's like 94 games under the "family friendly" tag in steam. As far as quality the list is pretty much dominated by the various lego games, but there are many other gems there. I saw Rayman Origins on the list for instance.
