Life has taught me a few things:

1) People can't save money. If you were to start saving at 25, by the time you reach 65 you should have close to a million dollars in your bank account. Why? So you can be independent, and so you can teach your children how to save and invest money.

2) Read and learn continuously. Read books on finance, religion, success, business, motivation, happiness, etc.. You should always be learning. What we don't use diminishes in time. It's a shame that most people don't read.

3) Hang out with people who are going to motivate you. Get rid of the losers who are holding you back. It has been said that you're the total of the 5 people who you hang around with. Hang out with negative people and you'll get negative results.

4) Travel the world at least once in your life. For me this is a biggie, because traveling and visiting different cultures really challenges your thoughts on life. Most people have never been out of their state let alone a different country.

5) Break out of your comfort zone as much as possible. The only way you can grow in life is to do things you're not used to doing. Take that chance in life. Do something that is going to challenge you. I need to do this more often.

6) Security is an illusion. There is no security in the animal kingdom, so why should we expect it in our own lives? Everyday you wake up it can be your last day on earth. Don't take it for granted. I remember seeing my mom on Sunday, and Tuesday morning she was dead. We are only here for a very short period.

7) Take care of your mental and physical health daily. This is a biggie for me. Most people abuse their bodies never giving thought to the outcome. Then one day they suffer a massive stroke. If they would have taken care of themselves they could have avoided health issues. We take it for granted. Go to the gym. Setup a healthy eating plan. You only have one body. The same can be said for your mental health as well. Take time to practice meditation at least 10m a day. Invest in yourself. Few people do this.

8) Watch how much time you spend viewing TV and playing video games. Yes, both are relaxing. The issue is for many people watching tv/playing video games rules their life. IMO, spending 30 hours a week playing video games is a waste of time. You are only given so many hours in the day. Use them wisely. I used to spend many hours do both activities. I have since sold my TV and closed my Steam account.

Losing my health and function at a relatively young age was a massive life lesson, one for which admittedly I was NOT prepared AT.ALL and did not handle gracefully for a while. I mean everyone has like plan A, plan B, and if that doesn't work out, hell I could do C. I did NOT have any Plan H or J, for fuck's sake. It's the ultimate thing to take for granted.

I have learned that when I try to tell people what I have learned in life they want to kill me.

Know when things aren't meant to be and when it's time to say goodbye. Do it while there are still fond memories and not a sense of relief or resentment.

at times it seems like the only thing you have learned is that people hate themselves.
Maybe if you tried to telling other stuff you've learned people wouldn't want to kill you.

People have to get past their self-hate before their hearts will open to the greater learning. One cannot conceive the beauty of the rainbow while stabbing one's eyes out with the poet's pencil of self-loathing.

It's not self hate for self hate's sake though. In fact they don't hate themselves at all it only seems to an outsider as if they do. It's often the familiarity with early childhood trauma and the tendency to repeat it causing self detrimental behavior usually without self awareness of what is causing it. Humans tend to repeat familiar behaviors and they are usually subconsciously driven.

I remember seeing my mom on Sunday, and Tuesday morning she was dead.
Almost a couple of years ago we spent a really nice typical day with my mom on a weekend and Monday she fell into a coma in which she stayed until she died the following Wednesday. We knew her heart was slowly giving out, it wasn't unexpected but in a sense it was a little sudden. She was 98!

These days most times when I have a physical complaint I wonder if it's something really serious or at least chronic. Those aren't comfortable thoughts! But I'm not a teenager anymore, I don't heal as fast. I think I heard that once you are older than maybe eleven, you are already not healing as fast as you used to. For many years now I don't permit myself to not go to the gym if I can help it (I do other exercise too), knowing that it's gotten way harder to get back what I've lost if I skip my workouts for a period of time. If I stopped working out for a year, say, I don't think I'd have any chance of getting back to where I am in terms of my strength and basic physical conditioning.
