Life has taught me a few things:
1) People can't save money. If you were to start saving at 25, by the time you reach 65 you should have close to a million dollars in your bank account. Why? So you can be independent, and so you can teach your children how to save and invest money.
2) Read and learn continuously. Read books on finance, religion, success, business, motivation, happiness, etc.. You should always be learning. What we don't use diminishes in time. It's a shame that most people don't read.
3) Hang out with people who are going to motivate you. Get rid of the losers who are holding you back. It has been said that you're the total of the 5 people who you hang around with. Hang out with negative people and you'll get negative results.
4) Travel the world at least once in your life. For me this is a biggie, because traveling and visiting different cultures really challenges your thoughts on life. Most people have never been out of their state let alone a different country.
5) Break out of your comfort zone as much as possible. The only way you can grow in life is to do things you're not used to doing. Take that chance in life. Do something that is going to challenge you. I need to do this more often.
6) Security is an illusion. There is no security in the animal kingdom, so why should we expect it in our own lives? Everyday you wake up it can be your last day on earth. Don't take it for granted. I remember seeing my mom on Sunday, and Tuesday morning she was dead. We are only here for a very short period.
7) Take care of your mental and physical health daily. This is a biggie for me. Most people abuse their bodies never giving thought to the outcome. Then one day they suffer a massive stroke. If they would have taken care of themselves they could have avoided health issues. We take it for granted. Go to the gym. Setup a healthy eating plan. You only have one body. The same can be said for your mental health as well. Take time to practice meditation at least 10m a day. Invest in yourself. Few people do this.
8) Watch how much time you spend viewing TV and playing video games. Yes, both are relaxing. The issue is for many people watching tv/playing video games rules their life. IMO, spending 30 hours a week playing video games is a waste of time. You are only given so many hours in the day. Use them wisely. I used to spend many hours do both activities. I have since sold my TV and closed my Steam account.
