I didn't really, truly appreciate music until this movie. Sure, I loved all of the more modern stuff (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pennywise, Foo Fighters, etc.) but I had never really bothered to pay attention to the REAL music. The JAZZ

What an awesome movie that was

You are sick and wrong.

I fail to see how watching a 90 minute film can change how someone thinks, acts and believes.

Ignorance is bliss?

So prove me wrong. What films have changed your being? How did they influence you to think, act and believe differently. Tell me. Give examples of how you were before then after the film.

Faces of Death - saw it too young (12 or so)
The Omen - I was about 5 or 6 and my dad and I were going to see Superman(I believe) and we arrived a bit early and walked in this one for only a couple of minutes....It was months before I stopped opening cabinets every time I entered a room.

No movie has changed my life. I watch them for entertainment only. Trust me, we don't need to be getting our values from Hollywood.

If you're going to say that, you're going to have to add songs and books to the list. They're all about telling stories, and stories are what make us see things in a different light.

Did you ever watch kids shows when you were growing up? (ie: Sesame Street, Barny and Friends, etc). If so, they probably had a large impact on your morals and behavior, whether you admit it or not. And those are 30 min - 1 hour TV shows.

To answer your post, before I saw Saving Private Ryan (I was 13), I literally thought "I'm gonna kill you" was a valid slang expression along the lines of "shut up" (my friends and I had kinda invented it a few months before). I also thought that getting shot wasn't that bloody, war was glorious, I was quite the naive little shit.

Suffice to say after that movie, my perception of war/violence radically shifted. As for overt behavior, I stopped making jokes about killing people, drawing violent stick figure images, and eventually convinced my friends that the "I'm gonna kill you" thing was stupid.

movies are entertainment.

movies don't change my life, attitudes, values, desirtes, values, or anything else.

some writers put that up there, some director coached players into aping the writers' story, some light shines through a flickering film, some stupid cows think that's heavy business, fans, groupies, idiots, fools, feeble minded, type of sheep Hillary Clinton can influence.

Illusion. Illusion. False illusion.

Focus on that, you're missing out on your real life.

So I guess books, paintings, music, puppies, happiness, and warm summer days have no impact on you at all either?

Why do people associate warm summer days with happiness and all that?

I associate warm summer weather with misery and strife. Cold winter weather is happiness to me.

Sorry to threadjack, just wondering.

I've heard that. We talked about this in my Social stats class. Some people get really happy, but some get really sad during sunny days. There's a name for it and I just can't remember it...

Sometimes they take longer than a day or two to dissipate, but looking back no movie has ever "changed my life" is a significant way. Unless you mean watching "It" as a kid and forever being wary of sewer drains, or Night of the Living Dead and being afraid of your grandfather's isolated farmhouse at night.

Sh!t, after my first viewing of the Matrix or Fight Club I would've sworn my life had been radically altered, but the perspective offered by time shows me it hadn't.

I prefer clouds over sun, snow/rain over 80's and clear. I feel more comfortable. And of course I'd end up in Southern California due to other factors.

While not "a movie", I grew up watching PBS and later discovery channel, HGTV (back when it was filled with hometime, this old house, and the new yankee workshop), et al ad infinitum.
I became incredibly interested in science, engineering, home improvement, and the ire, and before I found out about computers I wanted to become an electrician. A movie did not change my life, but these shows did.

Big Fish really hit home to me. I think I've had a stronger relationship with my Father since seeing it.

Ben Hur and Planet of the Apes.

I realized I would never be half the man Chuck was.

How do you know? Maybe if you never saw them, you would be even more close-minded than you are now.

"Change your life" doesn't mean a huge change. A minor change is still a change.

For me,

The Matrix, Fight Club, Mulholland Dr, and Memento all had a big impact on me.

Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind

Really made me think about life in general and how we take it granted.

After seeing that John guy, I was forever afraid of the gym shower because I thought I was lacking down there. Later I found out it was just him, not me

:laugh:MAO

Yeah, I'll never forget my first porno movie...good times...good times.

You wrote an admissions essay about a movie? And they let you in? Was this an admissions essay for clown college? Or did you write the essay about the actual event the movie was based on?

lol, the OP asked the wrong question I think. Should be something like "What movies had a profound impact on your life?" or something. 'Changed your life' just sounds kinda out there for movies.
