drink a lot of whole milk

there is a tribe in africa that has some ritual/contest where men eat/drink only milk for a couple of months to see who can get the fatest

this page describes it
http://www.tomorrow.org.au/why.php
Children in Sudan are responsible for looking after the cows and the calves. You take them out during the day to graze and then bring them back in the evening for milking. We also used to protect the crops from birds and monkeys. In winter, there is school, but during the summer, people stay in the cattle camps and drink milk all the time. They don?t eat anything, just drink milk for about 3 months. They have a competition to see who can put on the most weight, it is amazing how fat they can get from just drinking cow?s milk.

If you want to gain fat keep doing what they recommend

If you want to gain muscle then you want a 30, 30, 40 % diet of protein, fat, and carb. Take the protein 3 hours before workout and carb 1/2 to 1 hr after work out, sleep 8 hrs minimum, and pump iron every other day. You need to sleep to gain muscle.

Come back after a month, you will be a muscle man.

What about healthy calories: don't eat a ton of saturated fats. Eat nuts! Beans! Complex carbohydrates.

don't eat fried stuff. you may be skinny, but you can still die of heart disease.

I would avoid doing a "dirty bulk": pizza, unhealthy fats, etc. You will pay for it in the end. You might end up gaining fat and other unhealthy prolbems later on.

Just spread your meals through out the day.

As others advised, legumes such as beans, potatoes, nuts, milk, and natural peanutbutter if you can get it. I've seen guy around campus carry sandwiches (wheat bread, turkey, roast beef, etc)

Why don't you post your current eating regiment through out the day. There are lot of knowledgable people on this board that can help.

Here is cheap weight gainer shake I found on another forum.
scoop of whey protein
teaspoon olive oil
tablespoon peanut butter
tablespoon oats
tablespoon honey
all added to 12-20 oz of water or milk(for extra calories)

500-700 cals, 35 to 40 grams of protein.

Well, I just started to try gaining weight but I'm not always hungry so:
7:45 Breakfast - 1 eggo waffle, I wake up just in time to get dressed and drive to school

10:30-ish - come home (I have a weird schedule, I won't bore you with it) and make 6 eggs and 7 slices of bacon. Drink 1 glass of 2% milk.

1:00-3:00 - sometime in there I snack something like hot dogs or something

4:00-8:00 (work) - some chips or something from the vending machine

8:30 - 2 hamburgers, 2 white buns, 1 glass of milk

Night snack - milk, granola bar, pudding, junk food

Today I got my whey protein powder in the mail, and I wanted to see how many calories and protein I was eating, so I started keeping track.
Here's what I have so far -

Breakfast: 1 banana (1g protein, 100 cals), 1 glass of milk (16g protein, 244 cals), with 1 scoop of protein powder (24g protein, 120 cals).

10:30 snack - another glass of milk (16g protein, 244 cals) with 1 scoop of powder (24g protein, 120 cals)

lunch - 2 burgers (36g protein, 460 cals) 2 white buns (8g protein, 260 cals) 2 glasses of milk (32g protein, 488 cals)

So that's 163g's protein and 2096 cals. I only weigh 140 (I'm 6'1"), so I think I should only be taking in 140g's of protein right? Tonight I was planning on eating 6 eggs again, but now I don't know. It's hard to eat lots of calories.

ALL natural peanut butter is a great source. I eat alot of eggs while bulking probably 36 per week. Cholesterol is over-rated IMHO. After a 12 week bulk fest my Cholesterol is 202 which is only 2 points over the mark but my HDLs were at 67 which is very good.

thats alot of stuff but start adding extra condiments or toppings to everything. Like butter your hot dog buns and put mayonaisse on your burgers..try and add extra calories everywhere you can. When your drinking milk add cocoa mix to it, when eating cookies or granola bars dip them in whipped cream, peanut butter or something like that. Better yet sandwich a piece of chocolate between two cookies smear some peanut butter on it and microwave it for 30 seconds.....thats like 700 calorie dessert. hahaha. just get creative like that and think how many extra calories you can add.

Eat lots of carbs and eat more than you normally would. If you stick to this you will gain wait for sure. Perseverance is key; you won't gain 10 lbs in one day.

If you want the weight to be muscle mass, you need to eat LOTS of protein like burgers and beef jerkey and do 3 sets or more of each of the muscle groups every day.

Trying to gain weight is a much easier thing than trying to lose weight.

Edit: In reply to your question, I would say fast food is an easy way to gain weight. Eat about 2 burgers a day and eat lots of snacks in between meals to supplement. This is not very healthy, but it won't do too much harm if done in a short term (2-3 weeks). Eating vegetables and avoiding soda/candy will help compensate for the unhealthiness of this diet.

Now get out there to Taco Bell and McDonalds!
