What are the chances...

I have a 2010 Kia Forte that had an exhaust leak in the front. I took it into a muffler shop to have the front pipe/flex pipe replaced. They replaced the pipe and the next day the check engine light turns on. I check the OBD2 code with a friends reader and it reads P2626. This is the code for the o2 sensor in the pipe that they replaced. So what are the chances that this o2 sensor was actually already on it's way out? It seems more likely to me that they messed something up when they installed the sensor in the new pipe and damaged it themselves... thoughts?

i agree, they likely screwed it up. Either they damaged the sensor itself or perhaps the wiring got cut open and is shorting somewhere.

I would for sure check the wiring before spending money on a sensor.

This reminds me of a situation i had a few years ago with my truck, went into lube joint to get oil changed, they wanted to check auto trans fluid i said sure, they were fighting with the fill bolt for the trans for almost 10 min and then just gave up on it, they decided it was seized on. 2 days later as im driving to work i get a pillar of white smoke coming from engine bay...... wait for it to cool and inspect the situation and find a heater hose had a pinhole leak spraying coolant all over the motor, this hose was less than 6 months old, and hole was 4" above the trans fill bolt hole. Im thinking that wasn't a coincidence either.
