What are the differences in PIXEL PITCH when buying an LCD Flat Panel?

I noticed all 15inch LCD Flat Panel have a pixel pitch of .297mm

All 17inch Flat Panels are either .27mm or .264mm pixel pitch.

And 18inch Flat Panels are .28mm pixel pitch.

I know pixel pitch is different from dot pitch. But is smaller pixel pitch means sharper text and sharper images?

So in this case the best LCD to buy would be a 17inch model?

Anyone clear this up?

You've got it right.

Basically, the smaller the pixel pitch, the crisper the image. You can also look at the DPI, most of the current models hang out at 72, I know that my SGI 1600SW is 110 dpi (and pixel pitch is around .23mm) and the difference is quite clear.

Remember to keep an eye on the contrast and brightness as well.

If you buy the best LCD you can afford you will never go back to a CRT. I just wish I had purchased 2 of my SGIs

how do games play on them?

I was reading an article that said some of the older models (non-active displays) could only supply a refresh of up to 30 hz. And I thougth that ment that your 100+ fps GF3 would not show its true power..any truth to that?

I bought a KDS rad-5. I tested it with Need For Speed Prosche and Midtown Madness both games have high fps count. I have to tell you the truth the games look great. I'm using a Geforce 2 card so the fps is not very high maybee around 35-40 fps.

However if you get a video card that is very fast and have an old game like Quake 2 that can do 100+ fps you will notice ghosting.

Otherwise the flat panels are ok for gaming.

Now I'm thinking of getting a 17inch Flat Panel because with my 15 inch Flat Panel and .297mm pixel pitch the text is not the best as could be.

My 17inch CRT the text looks a bit better but I think thats because my CRT has the .26mm dot pitch.
