What are the letters after the P3 Chips, ex. 667EB

I am looking at different processors and am now in confusion....
What do those letters mean? Is this a value chip or an added performance chip?
And also, would a dual proc. system outperform its single CPU equivilant (2x 500mhz = 1GHZ)?

Any help is appreciated!

E after the cpu speed indicates the default fsb is 100 while EB indicates 133fsb!

Intel has the
E - 100mhz FSB(front side bus) with 256kb of Cache
B - 133mhz FSB(front side bus) with 512kb of Cache
EB - 133mhz FSB(front side bus) with 256kb of Cache

and if you run 2 500mhz cpus that doesnot come close to running a single 1ghz cpu
(it does not double the speed)

Actually E denotes the coppermine core, with 256 cache.... it was released at 100FSB originally and it defaults to that. Without an E (numbers only), that'd be a P3 Katami ?sp? core, which has the larger interconnects and a 512k cache). The B is what's used to denote 133FSB (has occasionally been called "B step" though that's incredibly wrong). I tend to think of it as a refinement B (like v2.0). oh, and you might find step codes with t in them, those are tulatin cores.

2 CPUs are only faster when the program is threaded and written to take advantage of both CPUs. Basically, if the writers of the code didn't design it to work on multiple processors, it sticks to using one.

2 500's dont come close to 1000?
the best thing about using dual cpu is not in thread programs designed for it but in a enviroment of heavy multitasking
unacing a large file and watching a movie at the same time as well as running seti in the back ground
in this kind of situation 2 500s get very close to = 1000
