Hey guys, dumb it down for me...what does that mean?

It means Skoorb can hook up his laptop and a 15" subwoofer to your living room wall.

That's not really Cat 5 so maybe the sub but not the laptop.

Edit: Damn you ElFenix!

Skoorb,

When they pre-wire for surrounds, they leave the wire in the wall in the back without plates. They use a detector to find the wires and punch through to them when you're ready to add some surrounds. (They hook something up to the wire in the plates in the front that sends some kind of signal and then trace the wire with a detector)

The best bet is to find out from the builder what A/V dealer he used for the wiring and they'll know exactly how to get to them with minimal damage to your walls.

Thank you. Even I understand that!

Thank you Red.

Too bad we have neither!

Are you sure about that? There was a thread about laptops and another about speakers over in Hot Deals that Skoorb posted in...

You're welcome. I know this first hand from my last house. I watched them as they traced the wire back and punched through to get to them.

My guess is going to be that they are speaker wires as well. This looks to me like the spot they intended your system to go and those are the left/right/center/surround ends that go into your receiver/amp.

Heh... 48ga is a little bit too small... I don't know what I was thinking.

Cool! Whenever I buy some rears I was going to wire it all myself, but if it's prewired that's a good bonus. Is locating those rears something easy to do or something I shouild have them do?

See if you can find out how they do it and if you can do it yourself. If not, they will install the rears for a minimum charge... probably ($100 or so).

The first thing to do is call the contractor and find out who put in the wires.
