What are you cooking for Thanksgiving

As long as I can remember, my family has made the same boring ass Thanksgiving dinner, they chalk it up to "tradition" I asked around about 10 years ago and was amused to find most of the white people I know tend to have thew same tradition meal. My Black friends all have these dinners with 7 cheese Mac & Cheese, Beef Brisket, short ribs, 2 kinds of Ham etc. While it doesn't ring true for a traditional dinner it sounded so damn good. I was invited to one and there must have been 25 different foods, they even had the Turkey and normal stuff so it was the best of both worlds. I would weep if my family would allow a nice 7 Cheese baked Mac & Cheese dish. But when I asked I was told that's not appropriate Turkey day food - LOL WTF!

All the other non Caucasian people I know come from Religions that don't celebrate holidays so I'm curious what else people make? I hate Turkey, even for one day of the year. And I'm not a huge fan of stuffing and boring mashed potatoes all made in the name of tradition.

I think that has to do with economics more than anything else. Im sure when most black thanksgiving traditions were born, they werent exactly wealthy.

ingredients, thinly sliced ribeye steak, shrimp, tofu, 3 types of mushrooms, chinese cabbage, spinach, onion, scallion, fish balls, shrimp balls, fried taro cubes. cellophane noodles at the end.
dipping sauce will be made with bull's head Sa Cha sauce with sesame oil, light soy, cilantro, egg yolk.

I'll be making the usual roast turkey and mash pots. But maybe I'll make some soup and some potstickers along with it. I might even get some Dungeness crabs and make some chilli crab as well. Green beans and other vegetables on the side.
This'll be for 2 people. Maybe I'm going overboard.

We did turkey for many years but found it very meh, so we moved onto something tastier (red meat ftmfw)

I'm Chinese, but we are having a very much normal thanksgiving. Dad's cooking up his annual turkey (roasted, AWESOMELY juicy). Pumpkin pie, corn, mashed potatoes, cranberries, some other chinese dishes.

The wife is Indian, and most of my family lives in another state. So, we're doing a bit of a twist on Thanksgiving this year and cooking:

1) Malai kofta
2) Mutter Paneer
3) Mango dahl
4) Papads with mint chutney
4) Rasmalai

It's all delicious, and I don't miss the turkey. We'll pair it with a nice German Riesling. That's about it.

Other than that, I'm thinking of getting some shrimp egg rolls and shrimp lo mein. I haven't tried anything from the local Chinese restaurant though, so I'm wary of spending money on something that turns out to be gross.


My family's "traditional" Thanksgiving thing was cornish hens, one per person. Then my mom got hit with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and possibly fibromyalgia. Spending a long time in the kitchen was no longer an option. One year we got pizza. After that, the tradition turned into getting Chinese food. Not that I'm complaining.

"Traditions" don't really have much meaning or purpose to me.

Fryin' a turkey ... we've done this the past few years. Couple times at my place, other times at a family members.

I miss Thanksgiving with my S. FL family though ... ridiculous amounts of people and food. This one dude made the best collard greens EVAR.

We're gonna have pretty normal stuff, good ass mac & cheese will be making an appearance.
