It is good stuff but that book is part 2 of a trilogy, The Baroque Cycle. Start with Quicksilver.

But very very good. If you have read Cryponomicon, and how he writes about older era's... same thing but no jumping to the present and it takes place in the 1800's (? not sure on this, been a while).
But very good, quasi-historical, and geeky at the same time.

First work I read by Stephenson was "The Baroque Cycle". Incredible, to say the least. It takes place in the late 1600s and early 1700s, just to refresh your memory.

Cryptonomicon was also very good, as was Snow Crash, which I just read the week before last. Next Stephenson book I read will be either "Zodiac" or "The Diamond Age".

As for my currently reading, I just finished Umberto Eco's "The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana" (great book) and just started "Nightside the Long Sun" (the first book in Gene Wolfe's "Book of the Long Sun"). I'm not expecting it to be as good as his "Book of the New Sun" (what could be?), but it's interesting so far.

Me too, I've just stared re-reading the whole series beginning-to-end since I've finished it.
