Just finished The Wizard (Book Two of Wizard Knight) by Gene Wolfe. It was okay but no where near the caliber of the Book of the New Sun.

My alltime favorite

I'm going to pick THHGTTG back up and finish it this time. Not that I didn't like it, but I was busy with other stuff last time and never got around to finishing. It's been so long I may as well start from the beginning.

Shogun was awesome BTW

Can you recommend some other awesome books?

Have you read the Song of Ice and Fire series?

No, I keep hearing about them. What are they?

I'd just keep waiting. Martin is really dragging ass about finishing the series.

I've been reading Koontz's One Door Away from Heaven for about two weeks now. I just can't get into it. Koontz's constant use of analogies is really irritating me and I usually like his books.

Amazing fantasy series by George R.R Martin. I'm not a big fan of epic, long fantasy series novels but this series is an exception.

Definite

I read the series based on ATOT recommendations and loved it. Currently reading through the series again in preparation for the fifth book in April 2009.

I also got The Watchmen and World War Z for my birthday.

Clavell's other books are good too -- King Rat, Tai Pan, Noble House, Whirlwind.

I'm reading The Complete Hammer's Slammers by David Drake, classic military SF from a guy who served with an armored regiment in Viet Nam.

Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson books while I wait for Salvatore's next few books to be released. And, as always, GRRMs next book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. He sure is taking his time. . .

Also reading this: Idiot's Guide to Weight Training

Really? Granted I read it back in junior high and it was one of the earlier fantasy books I read, I actually really liked it. I wouldn't recommend reading the trilogy that follows, as that is how I felt about them (especially after reading the Lord of the Rings). Sword of Shannara was still ok, but Elfstones and Wishsong were really that way. Of course you do have to keep in mind that they might seem cliche now, but they were written quite a while ago (although not First King).

The Word and Void trilogy was enjoyable, but it's pretty cliche too.

As for me, I finally picked up Confessor (final book of Sword of Truth). Haven't started reading it yet, but I'll be glad to be done with the series, and its still at least mildly enjoyable. The book itself is weird, its taller than normal. After that, I don't know what I'll read.

I read Playing for Pizza (John Grisham) a little while back. My stepdad liked it a lot but I didn't find it all that good. Decent light reading but definitely not as good as I was hoping from Grisham. Its basically Mr. Baseball, only football and Italy. I didn't like the ending either.

Going through a phase where I don't know what I feel like reading and kinda don't feel like reading much.

"Planets of Adventure" by Murray Leinster, a compilation of his short stories. He was one of the pioneers of Science Fiction. Available for free digital download from Baen Books.

Great fantasy series BUT DO NOT START IT! Wait until the lazy slow ass author finishes it. He currently writes one volume about every 5 years. He may die before he finishes it so just wait until he's done.

I'm midway through Book 4 of Malazan Book of the Fallen. Erikson puts out a 1000 page tome every 12-18 months, and he only has 2 left to go in this 10 book series. Intimidatingly large but really excellent.

I have the entire series (of books). I think I finished Shogun in about a week. I still have to read whirlwind. The first book is the best of the series, imho.

I'm currently reading 'The Scientists' by John Gribbin. It's very slow reading for me.

Or maybe the fifth book will be December 2009. Or maybe June 2010. Or perhaps March 2014. That April 2009 date is pulled out of thin air by a hopeful publisher, not by Martin himself. He's already missed about a dozen such dates, so they keep inventing new ones. Duke Nukem Forever might get here before that book.

Reading the third book in Stephen Kings 'The Dark Tower' series. The book is called "The Wastelands"

Loving the series so far. I've always ignored it and thought it sounded stupid, but this is turning into some of the best Stephen King stuff I have ever read and I have read pretty much everything he has put out.

Dark Tower for the win.
