What are you doing while you wait for Vega?

For all those who are waiting to buy Vega, what are you doing in the mean time.

Hopefully Vega annihilates the TitanXP, though knowing AMD it will struggle to match the 1070, while consuming 300W. Hopefully I'm wrong

Using the 1070 in the mean time.

Bought a 1080 and enjoy the experience.

I didn't feel like waiting a year sadly.

I have an o/c 970 that I'm in no hurry of replacing. I'll go to 4k if/when I decide my next card can properly handle it. No hurry at 1080p.

Turning down settings. I'm not much of a gamer and the games I play don't require much HP so I can I've been able to play some current games (Warhammer and XCom 2, neither of which are fps hungry games) at 3840x2160 by turning a few settings down and, most importantly, getting a FreeSync monitor. That way I can game all the way down to about 33Hz.

If Vega is good I might get a 3440x1440 monitor to replace my 1920x1200 monitor (the 3840x2160 already replaced one) and then have a choice of monitor to game on depending on the game and the fps and refresh rate I desire.

To those saying it is pointless to wait for Vega, you're overlooking two things. First, there is a plethora of Freesync monitors out there, including the recently announced 27" 1440p VA 144Hz ones from Samsung. Freesync monitors often cost around $200 less. More importantly, the distance between them and the G-Sync selection is only growing by the day.

For someone who is already a Freesync user or is planning to become one, waiting for Vega makes sense.

Secondly, DX12 performance on AMD is stronger than it is on NV in this generation. So even if 1080 is stronger in DX11, if you're planning to keep the GPU for 3+ years, AMD could make more sense. And I say all this as someone who is happy with my current 980 Ti. I'm personally waiting for Volta and whatever AMD is planning to release to counter it(Vega+?) and then make up my mind.

If you wait and use a much slower AMD processor now, you spend many months with poor performance. We also do not know if Vega will be better either. It would have been nice to have had the choice of Vega a few months ago, but I wasn't going to wait 9 months with poor performance until it arrived. In the tech industry, there is always the promise of something better in 6-12 months. If you are always waiting for the next tech release, you'll never buy anything, and always have poor performance.

I was thinking of purchasing Vega but I'm not so sure anymore. I have a Fury X and made a promise to myself that I wouldn't buy a new GPU until I can at least double my graphics performance. Will Vega achieve that or must I wait until Navi?

If you only have 1 machine, I think the GTX 1070, from everything I've seen and read, makes the most sense. If you have more than 1 machine like I do, I purchased a RX 480. (was able to snag a reference 8g model for $239).

In fairness to AMD, they have set the timelines for release of Vega and Zen to the earliest, early 2017. The real problem is the highend for all of 2016 is virtually owned Nvidia AND since AMD is so tight lipped about Vega, it is very hard to determine if it will match a GTX 1080. Pascal Titan X is out so forget trying to match that unless AMD has something up its sleeve (I doubt it).

I am very pleased with the RX 480 performance wise for the monitor I am using with it. (2560 x 1080 Ultrawide with Freesync).

Vega is supposed to move AMD devotees solidly into the Ultra 1440/4k arena. We shall see.

Using my 2yr old 970 to push my 4k monitor. Since I don't usually play the latest and greatest, it works just fine. But I do plan on upgrading near Vega release... hopefully they impress or otherwise NVidia price drops. I'm not a loyalist but I would like to try AMD this next card... last 2 or 3 have been NVidia.

I'm not even thinking about getting a new GPU until we get some truly next gen displays. DP1.3/1.4, HDR, 4K120, OLED, lower resolutions over 200Hz, etc.

That's a whole other issue entirely.
That 5000 dollar dell monitor looks appealing though and I'm being dead serious. It meets all those specs if I'm not mistaken.

My largest reason for waiting for vega is freesync.

What I'm doing?
Playing emulators. Fed up with amd but with no viable alternative I don't know what to do. I hoped to be 4k gaming this year with an amd gpu and monitor but both gpu releases and has done recently were just not what I needed.
As a luxury purchaser I don't feel amd remotely cares about me as a consumer.

Hey, I've been replaying the Silent Hill golden years (1 through 4) via emulation/PC versions. Nothing like forced 16xSSAA

It's sad since I really wanted Vega for the gta5redux mod that's done now. Instead I'm playing dolphin.

The more sad thing is I won't be surprised if Vega is a complete let down. If so, I'll buy Scorpio and just play halo + a couple other games (who am I kidding just halo....) until new gpus are released.

That's my biggest fear. I waited for fury x, and we know how that went.
I don't want to buy a subpar product just for freesync

Im waiting on 2x290 CF. Very fast when it works, sometimes as fast as a 1080. But it doesn't always work. That's why I want Vega or GP102. I'm 100% not going to buy a Titan XP for $1200 though and no way nVidia is going to release a cheap version of that card until AMD shows up with Vega .... so I wait.

Using Intel's IGP and saving up for Vega. I'd for for the cheaper little brother, if Vega 10 is around $300 that would be amazing. 1080 level performance for $300.
