YMMV, I used to work with some people that considered a straight up gin martini a sissy drink. I'd drink them anyways with a couple olives at a decent place when we were out at a bar now and then.

Weird. The two modern day bastardizations of the classic gin martini that disgust me most are the dirty gin martini, which is often as much as half olive brine ("Would you like some gin with your salt?") and the stupidly dry martini, with a couple drops of vermouth, or the glass rinsed with vermouth. Just skip the vermouth if you want to drink straight gin, for Christ's sake.

Ignorance abounds in some areas of life sometimes.

Gin and Tonics aren't the same socially as what they used to be, many people seem to think they are old fashioned these days I guess. The Brits used to drink them just for the lime and tonic water as a anti malarial thing I believe, but that was quinine water.

Around here, the gin & tonic and vodka tonic are most often summer drinks. Very refreshing. Lots of drinks today are somewhat out of style, though, particularly among the younger set. In a college town I've seen bartenders with ten years of experience slinging beer, shots and Jack & Cokes to packed bars, who couldn't even tell you what liquor was in a Rusty Nail.

Took the day off to light a fire, and watch the snow fall. I'm having a glass of Ardbeg 10yr, and enjoying winter :^)

This, right now. Holy shit is it delicious, and not too spendy. pick it up if you can find it.

How is the Trader Joe's Vintage this year? I haven't tried it since the 2013-14 season, I think. It was so good at one time: $3.99 per bottle and made from grains. Or, it tasted so. I used to buy cases of it. But by that time, it was going up a dollar each year and tasting more an more extracty like all of their brews

and before anyone complains about $1/year increase, recall that these are 64?oz bottles. going from 4 bucks to near 7 bucks...well it is 7 bucks here, is a big deal, obviously. Especially when the quality drops like it does.

Say, Duvel is pretty good, but really kinda "swilly" compared to it's class, and they used to be a "value" at $5.99. When the TD's Festival came around at $3.99, and was great--that was YUUUGE!

I have been enjoying the Vintage editions since 2001, Trader Joe took over in 2008.
They age really nicely for about 5 years. I've had some over 7 years old and they were wonderful.

Hah, I just looked at the years. That's awesome man--those were great then!

The longest I kept a stash was from 2008-2009, I think.

Nice font on "light", but it doesn't look like it belongs there. Oh well. If that were the only problem with Coors, you'd be doing pretty good :^P

After seeing all the fancy stuff in this thread I figured id keep it real for the average Joe.

I use to be a Budweiser kinda guy but the headaches got to be a bit much. I do enjoy a good domestic.

You can have good beer that's still very accessible, like this hot date I just had.

They make it sound fancy on that page but it's not spectacular, but then again it doesn't need to be. It definitely tastes better than water, which is more than can be said for Coors.

Ive never been into the micro brewed stuff, it all has the same after taste to me. There have been good ones though but usually I only drink one and never go back.

I drink to get drunk usually, not for the taste... Some people like elicit substances I like booze.

Well at least you've tried other stuff, and to be honest a lot of it is bad. If it's a bitter aftertaste then you can pretty safely blame pretentious douches and their hops. Right now the craze is to put all of the hops into all beers regardless of whether it makes any sense at all, which means a lot of beer that should be at least decent just isn't. Ruining good beer like that should be a criminal offense punishable by endless ridicule.

Wouldn't mind me some alcohol, but I've been in and out of the ER twice in as many months for what is now deemed to be a damn ulcer. So I can't drink, have coffee or spicy food for at least a month until this bitch heals. And believe me, when the fucker flairs up it's like a knife is stuck in the top part of my stomach. Have to see my PCP and then a Gastroenterologist. I'm concerned about bacteria that may have started this.

You're pretty young to be getting ulcers aren't you?

I understand this--I knew some people back in the day whose goal, usually, was to get piss drunk throughout an evening...which meant drinking ~18 Coors light throughout a baseball game and then reruns of several Adam Sandler movies.

like, every night.

I never understood the rationality behind going with 12-18 Coors for 6-7 hours, when you can just drink ~6-8 craft brews at 8%+ alcohol and get shit-faced much faster.

well, for beer people anyway

Naked Grape wine... 5/7.6 of the bottle in one sitting probably.

I could still do the one-leg alphabet test. Too paranoid to attempt to damage liver further to see how far I could go.
