Being naughty and enjoying my Bud Light of beers, La fin du Monde. Obviously delicious and amazing. I never have a problem going back to it. If something were to get me to go to an AA meeting, this beer would be it. Also I'm being a fatty and having a PB + Nutella sandwich. Fucking awesome, though I suppose I could have mixed my drink with it a bit better and gone with a Porter or Stout heh. Oh well...

Also here is my stash - sadly I don't have a temp controlled fridge for them - but these are basically beers that I always want to have at least one on-hand that I can bust out when having good times with friends/family. My stash definitely isn't remotely comparable to you Gorb. But hey - if I'm ever in your area I'd definitely have to have a beer with ya

For a much better porter, try Samuel Smith's Tadcaster Porter. Stouts do tend to have a heavier roast. You might also try the slightly winy burn of Imperials or barley wines.
I love taddys!! Samuel Smith has a number of really well done beers.

I've had a couple Guinness, and now I'm working on some Tullamore DEW.

I swear to Odin, this Irish made Guinness tastes better than the Canadian version. I noticed a difference when they first switched, but I don't drink a lot of beer, so I can't rule out the perceived improved flavor now isn't in my head. I guess the only thing that matters is I think it's better, no?

It's all going well with brooding, and listening to Aesthesys...

Not up to my standards.
It's all about expectations. Sometimes you don't want to spend a fortune on whisky(hence the Tullamore DEW), and just want something pleasant and drinkable. For ~$23. Famous Grouse is great. It has all the right flavors, and none of the wrong ones. I usually have a bottle on hand, but I'm currently out.

Kroger was selling Rittenhouse Rye for $25 a bottle. Manhattans are back on the menu!

If you want a very under the radar cocktail whiskey, can't do any wrong with Rittenhouse Rye. It makes a damn good Manhattan or Old Fashioned for $25 a bottle.

It's good straight too. I've been looking for a replacement for Pikesville rye(the cheap one), and this is close(same distillery), but I have to mix it down with a bit water. I'd rather get 80proof from the bottle, but that'll do... First world problems :^D

Heaven Hill makes a solid whiskey. For $26 Elijah Craig small batch is a hell of a bourbon. It punches well above it's price class.

I'll have to grab a bottle some time. I'm not a big bourbon drinker, but I like it on occasion. I've been getting a lot of rye lately. Losing Pikesville is one of my biggest regrets. If I had known they'd quit making it, I'd have bought a couple cases. It wasn't super amazing, but it was solid, tasty, and *cheap*; $13.50/bottle. It was a poor mans Irish, and made a good filler if I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted. It always tasted good. Smooth, mellow, and inoffensive. Inoffensive could also be translated to boring, but sometimes boring's just fine.

If bourbon is too sweet then Elijah will be a nice change. While not super high on rye on the mash bill, it's more earthy than many.

If you really want a treat, it's $60 a bottle but Cassius Clay is freaking awesome.

Nifty bottle. Since you seem to be into bourbon, what's your opinion of Blanton's? I got miniature once years ago when I first started getting into whisky. I balked at the price of a full bottle at the time, but it's not so extravagant anymore. I found it interesting. It tasted very grassy to me; like nothing else I'd ever had. My experience at the time was primarily scotch, and I was newish to whisky in general, so I'm not sure I can trust my memory, or the training of my taste buds. It's been on my mind lately, and I've been considering a full bottle. Thinking about giving it as a gift this jul(if it passes muster), but I'm leaning more towards Redbreast Irish since it's a bit sweeter, and the recipient isn't really a whisky drinker.

Honestly underwhelmed by Blantons given the hype around it. If you want sweeter and something hard to find but not stupid expensive - see if you can get your hands on Elmer T. Lee. It's in the $35-40 range and leans to the sweeter side. But it's so freaking good over ice.

If you want to stick to Buffalo Trace brand (which Blantons is) I really like E.H. Taylor small batch. It's one of those $40 gems that are harder to find.

Another Rye that I love is Manhattan Rye. Funny story on that one. My wife and I were literally in Manhattan and drinking Manhattans. We were at a bar in around the corner from times square and it was actually a quiet night. Start ordering drinks and chatting up the bartender. When they find out you are from central KY it immediately turns into a bourbon conversation. What we really talked about was the cocktail cherries that this bar used in their Manhattans. They were incredible and we let the bar tender know they were something special. That really warmed him up because most people take them for granted and don't pay attention.

After that he reaches behind the bar and says "you seem to know you stuff, try this" and just passes a bottle of this stuff to my wife and I. He says go ahead and top off and enjoy. This stuff was really good.

Pot still, eh? I'm intrigued. I'll keep my eyes open for it. There's a couple shops around here that have some esoteric brands. Maybe it'll turn up.

You can find that Hudson brand in Iowa. I'm sure you can get it in the NE.
