Somebody had a visit with Mr colonoscopy.

It was a harrowing evening, for sure! My 2nd one to date, but I think I have another in a couple of weeks (well, a CT to get full image coverage; but I think I have to do the prep again.)

I'll keep you guys updated!

My drink of choice for a prep - smooth and mild. I hope everything comes out ok. My wife has been having a lot of GI problems lately and it’s been pretty rough will all of the tests.

So far so good...just some extra thoroughness. One polyp found but it was removed, pathology isn't back yet. Had a bit of a scare a few weeks earlier because, of all things, the optometrist mentioned some retinal pigment "discoloration" that I should keep an eye on...but no biggy. I pressed her to explain this further--first I've heard of it--and she said oh, nothing to do with vision, but noted as a hallmark of some cancers. She didn't have my previous medical records (Still transferring), so no knowledge of history, just out of the blue--oh, just a possible sign of colon cancer. I was pretty sure I would be dead in a year after that (I skipped my previous 2 colon blows over the last 10 years, and so assumed that it had caught up with me). BUT--the colonscopy went well and even if path comes back rather alarming, it's gone now and just means more regular monitoring. ....well, unless it's some other adenocarcinoma in some other area. .....pleasant.

anyway, back to your regular drinking thread..

I had a mint julep for the first time in years over the weekend...very refreshing!

2 oz. Woodford Reserve
1/2 oz simple Syrup
3 Fresh Mint Leaves
Crushed Ice

Crush the mint on the bottom of the glass, cover with syrup, add ice and bourbon, dash more syrup on top, and rub the rim with a mint leaf garnish. Tastes like a Spearmint Lifesaver mixed with a woody caramel finish...which goes together surprisingly well!

Did brunch at a speakeasy in NYC. Bottomless drinks and you get to make smores at your table. Drink was elderberry liquor, prosecco, and club soda. Was a slightly less gin'y gin and tonic. Good stuff.

It has been awhile since I've had it but from what I remember they should keep it in the barrels for much longer

NE IPAs are just... so... overrated... There I said it!

Yeah I'll admit it - tons in my area are going nuts over Parish in Houston.

Overall I just wasn't amazed. Even tried all of their reserve series... meh.

Definitely disagree with you but tastes do differ of course I wish Parish distributed to DFW. Maybe one day.

My brother turned me on to this. Nice summer beer. Crisp and citrusy. Nothing amazing, but a solid beer, and priced decently @ $15/12pack cans. Bonus for me is it's made in MD. Keeps some of the money in-state.

Getting to be gin & tonic season. This caught my eye today when I was getting my Guinness blonde...

I like Hendricks anyway. It's not quite as dry as my former favorite, Bombay Sapphire. Not the biggest gin fan, but I'm drinking a little neat now to how it tastes. The quinine is very noticeable, and it has some floral notes. Interesting take on gin. Definitely more complex than something like Beefeater. Nifty bottle too. It's a limited release. I won't miss it when it's gone(G&Ts are flexible with spirit choice), but I'm glad I got a bottle.

and my last treat I got today...

Surprisingly, it's better than the Smirnoff I got a couple weeks ago simply for the plastic bottle. It has a gentle sweetness, smooth, and no off flavors. It was also cheap. $14/750ml. I drink it as a shot. Never really cared for vodka, and don't like it mixed with anything, but I've been enjoying shots from the freezer. Next glass, I'll try drinking it slower. Shots make me feel like an alcoholic. Not trying to get fucked up or anything. Just want to get it touch with my northern European roots :^P

Ever try Tito's? I'm not a Vodka fan but it's pretty good.

I actually had that in my hand when I saw the Sobieski. I got the Sobieski based on price, and the fact that vodka (arguably)originated in Poland. I've always been skeptical of vodka. The flavor's not that complicated, and I've suspected people are being had by "premium" vodka brands. I'm still not convinced, but there's a little more there than I previously thought. I'm gonna slowly explore the offerings, and I'll likely get Tito's at some point.
