I bought some Dalwhinnie the other night. I've heard people mention it from time to time so I thought I'd give it a shot. I can't say I'm a fan. It tastes like watered-down Glenlivet. I don't have anything against Glenlivet at all. It's a fine scotch if you're in the mood for something mild, tried, and true. But the Dalwhinnie just struck me as a lesser version of the same spirit.
I was at my in laws over the weekend and had a nice taste of Macallan 15. It was a little fruitier than I tend to care for, but it was probably one of the smoothest scotches I've ever had. I've had a bottle of Macallan 12 in my own home, but it wasn't nearly as good as the 15.
On Friday the wife and I went out for a wonderful steak dinner at Smith & Wollensky. I did something insanely profuse and ordered a Johnnie Walker Blue. It was out of this world. When the check came I joked to my wife that I wish I could undo the steak dinner and just go buy a proper bottle of the blue
