There's a bottle of Havana Club sitting on the shelf mocking me. I only bought it because it was like $8 for a big bottle. I drank way too much at the Tropicana while I was on vacation. Free rum and me are a bad combo.

Long weekend coming up and I need a new craft beer to try. I haven't seen the LCBO bring in anything different in a long time though.

do you get any minnesotan beers in ontario?

flat earth, summit, surly

Lol. We barely get Ontario beers in Ontario. We only have the one liquor store and selection isn't great. Stone Hammer pilsner was my beer of last summer. Good local beer. I need to take a trip to the Cameron's brewery again soon, since it's so close to my work.

I've come to the point in my life where I have decided that I will now only consume champagne as my alcoholic drink of choice.

Sadly, this means going cheap will be Veuve Clicquot.

If you're just buying the yellow label Veuve I generally think that US offerings from Roederer, Schramsberg, and Mumm are generally equal or superior for less money.

I generally don't buy yellow label Veuve, but that is probably around the cheapest I'd go with. Also, I said champagne, not sparkling wine. >_<

I'll start the early evening off with some unlabeled coffee of questionable quality, and as the evening progresses I'll follow up with a cold Pepsi and then rehydrate the rest of the evening with water until bed time.

Why would you do that?
Champagne is great, but there's other drinks that are better in certain situations.

A good fino before a meal.
A glass of proseco sitting in the sun chatting with friends.
A bottle of barolo while sitting in an armchair by an open fireplace reading a book.
An aged imperial stout whilst sitting in the bath with some Bach blasting out.

Limiting yourself to one type of drink is terrible.

I prefer water in all of those occasions, and prosecco is far too sweet for me to ever drink. I really only find myself wanting to enjoy something with exceptional texture, and not even to get drunk. Champagne fills that category perfectly.

Prosecco isnt sweet, at all. Its not as complex as an aged champagne though if thats what you mean.

The dryest Cava's even more dry, morso than champagne.

Going to a "Latin American" restaurant tonight and I think I may try a tequila sampler. I'm interested to know whether I can tell the difference in the various tequilas they offer. :hmm:

For most people, probably not. I dislike almost everything sweet, so I can really pick it out. I would prefer Brut Zero in every champagne, but it is hard to find.

I don't think you need quotes around Latin American, unless you're being sarcastic and "Latin American" is what you call Olive Garden. Which I'm totally stealing, because that's awesome.

And you should be able to taste a different in tequilas. Obviously you'll be able to taste the difference between a blanco and a resposado/añejo, but there's plenty of variations between distillers as well. Cazadores tastes very different than Hornitos, even if they're both 100% agave and aged for a similar amount of time. Pro-tip: Patron is fantastically overrated and overpriced, so if a place is offering it up as their "best" tequila, they don't specialize in tequila.

Well I put quotes because I'm not really sure what it entails; I thought Latin American could be anything below the United States of America which is quite a variety of countries and cuisines in my eyes. :hmm:

Thanks for the info man. I've never really got into tasting tequila, I've only had it blended in other drinks or as shots late into a drunken night. I will see what they offer and make sure not to get sucked into the overrated/overpriced. I'm assuming they should have a decent assortment if they are offering tasting menus, but who knows.

They are all going to be overpriced, but that is only because it is at a restaurant. I am not a huge tequila drinker, mostly due to some pretty gnarly tequila hangovers, but I can taste the difference and can see Patron, while not being bad, isn't really that exceptional for how much it costs.
