My wife and I invited my brother and his wife over for a "cocktail party" (if three drinkers and a pregnant woman qualifies as such) this weekend, which gave me an opportunity to make (and naturally sample) quite a few cocktails. Consequently, in the past couple days, I've made a Martini, Sidecar, Daiquiri, Sazerac, Clover Club, Corpse Reviver #2, Negroni, Gin and Tonic (with proper tonic water), Cuba Libre and Old Pal. Tonight, I'm trying a "Between the Sheets," which is a stupid name for a tasty drink; just a Sidecar with half the brandy replaced with rum. Delightful.

Incidentally, the Corpse Reviver #2 might be my new favorite drink. Appallingly stupid name, fantastic drink. My sister-in-law (who doesn't really drink) loved it, which I think is the mark of a good cocktail. Equal measures gin, Cointreau, Cocchi Americano (or Lillet Blanc) and lemon juice shaken with ice served in an absinthe-rinsed glass. Simple, refreshing, deceptively complex and delicious. Just superb all around. I highly recommend everyone try one.

It actually tastes GREAT! It tastes kind of like liquid Tootsie Rolls (not in a gross way!), with a cream soda aftertaste. It was so good that I bought a small cold one, took a swig when I got to my car, and went back in to buy a 6-pack. The brand is Hosmer Mountain, which is local to New England - only a few stores carry them:

Ace of Spades. It is pretty good. And the bottle is awesome. Not sure if I like it more than Cristal, though. I'll have to get another bottle to be sure.

Really depends on how your body reacts to alcohol ingestion. It takes quite a lot to get me to not be energetic when drinking.

Literally everywhere. I mean, basically every Safeway and Fred Meyer's stocks it, as do many of the Plaid Pantrys, 7-11s and other corner markets. You shouldn't have much trouble tracking it down.

Next time you make a rum and Coke, toss in some fresh-squeezed lime juice (about half a lime per drink). It's the original recipe for the rum and Coke, aka the Cuba Libre, and as you're using authentic Cuban rum, you might as well go for the original. It's surprisingly delicious. Although it works better with Coke with real sugar (the hecho en Mexico bottles) rather than Coke Zero... But, seriously, awesome.

Tonight was a busy day which demanded a proper drink. So I rounded up some top shelf ingredients to make the best Manhattan I've ever had. Rittenhouse rye whiskey, Carpano Antica Formula sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters and genuine Luxardo maraschino cherries. Just lovely. The Carpano Antica is just so full-bodied and rich with some lovely vanilla notes and just a hint of bitterness to play off the spiciness of the rye. The smoothness completely belies the alcohol content; it's like velvet sex for your mouth. I highly recommend it.

I had a Spirit Tree Estate Apple Larger last night. Essentially a light cider.
Wanted to try their hopped cider but the place was packed when I got these. They didn't have any for sale in the shop either.

I picked up a bottle of de la costa Sangria tonight at the super market. Over all not to bad. Easy to drink and has a nice flavor to it.
