Henry McKenna Single Barrel bourbon. This stuff is absolutely killer for the price. It's got a little too much heat on it to drink it neat, but add a splash of water and let it breathe for a few minutes and it tastes like a whiskey twice the price; it's like Booker's for frugal people. Wonderful complexity, beautiful balance... just great. Can't believe it only costs ~$25.

Aberlour A'Bunadh batch #47. I'm getting into Scotch; I've always been big into peaty Islay Scotches, but my wife won't touch them, so I'm trying to ease her into accepting Scotch with some distinctly un-peaty drams. A'Bunadh is about as far as you can get from peat and still technically be drinking Scotch. It's deservedly referred to as a sherry monster; this thing is beastly (in the best possible sense). It's 121.4 proof, and the immediate taste is of sherry and fruit (and alcohol, really). But as you let it breathe, it starts to taste of chocolate and strawberries, with a strong caramel sweetness. An absolutely stunning drink, one that I would keep in regular rotation were I rich enough to do so.

Two marks against it. First the cap is covered in wax (as the picture shows), but there's not actually anything to get the wax off; I had to use a knife to cut through it to get to the delicious liquid contained within. Second, it's got a highly unpronounceable name, which makes it a nightmare to order in a bar, but the name is not quite interesting enough to rank up there in the upper echelon of the "you've got to be fucking kidding me" Scotch names; things like Bunnahabhain, or Bruichladdich, or Laphroaig, or most Ardbeg offerings (Corryvreckan, Airigh Nam Beist, Uigeadail, which, honestly, what the fuck Gaelic?). But neither of those complaints address the liquid in the bottle, which is otherworldly. As it stands, a strongly recommended special occasion drink. Just spectacular, one of the best Scotches I've ever had.

Heaven Hill makes some outstanding products that have largely flown under the radar until the last few years. McKenna Single Barrel is probably the last one that is really a bargain anymore if you can find it. Availability on the west coast seems to be decent buy it's more scarce elsewhere for some reason.

I'm even starting to see Elijah Craig 12 in the low to mid 30s around here now. :|

Saving for Valentines Day (to myself):
Shebeen Java Pig Stout (bomber)

I'm part of a beer club at my local beer store and as soon as I verified the obvious (bacon), I reserved it.

Not even on Beer Advocate? Wow, a first for me!

One of my favourite whiskeys to get out when I have guests round.Wish it was cheaper but can't really complain as it is worth every penny.

I've had some homemade limoncello going for the last three months or so; basically just a waiting game as lemon peels infuse into grain alcohol with a little sugar thrown in so it's not just really potent citron vodka. Well, today was bottling day, and that means sampling the "merchandise" (if gifts for friends can be described as such). And, lo and behold, it's delicious. It's like if someone made Lemonheads alcoholic. Not cloyingly sweet, fortunately, but just enough to make it a perfect digestif. Maybe poured over some raspberry sorbet... Sheeeeeeeeeit.

Green tea... I haven't had hard liquor in two or three months now -- may have had some meade or beer that someone else bought and didn't finish.

Tasted far better then I had thought they would.
