Just poured myself a rum and Pepsi. I think it tastes better with Coke but Pepsi was on special at the convenience store.

So do I want to go with the Chimay Grand Reserve or the Lindemans Framboise?

Depends. If it's hot, go with the Framboise, as it's more refreshing. If it's not, Chimay. You can't really go wrong with either.... unless you mixed them in the same glass, I suppose.

Some peach Smirnoff shit. Only worth a buck a bottle was $8 a six pack, but the dumb ass clerk voided it or something so I got it free!

So my wife and I took our daughter berry picking a few weeks back and we loaded up on fresh strawberries. I took a few pints of them, hulled and cut them and tossed them in some tequila to infuse for a few weeks. The batches finished up last night, so I started the process of straining. The cheesecloth is simple enough, but did you know that it takes literally hours and hours and hours to strain infused liquor through coffee filters? I might have to invest in some jelly bags as a secondary filtration prior to the coffee filters and just pass everything slowly through over the course of the weekend.

Anyway, I also sampled it briefly last night, and it's fucking amazing. It's tequila, but the harshness has been cut down tremendously, and you get the nice bracing freshness of strawberry throughout. It's also bright red; it looks like someone dumped food coloring in it. I figure I'll try it out in some traditional cocktails tonight; a Paloma or a Margarita with natural strawberry flavors? Awesome.

I think it is, tastes a lot like chimay blue with a hint of cherry.

Hmmm... I don't actually like cherry, so that may not be up my alley.

I've taken some of my house infused strawberry tequila and shaken it with some homemade strawberry syrup and fresh lime juice; best strawberry margarita I've ever had. Just... yum. And the strawberry flavor blows the roof off those artificial syrups. Everything is so fresh.

had this the other night

HOLY FUCK it was good. It had a nice chocolate taste, not very sweet. I could taste just a hint of Marshmallows too. I'm not a huge sweets fan and I really don't like Marshmallows much on their own. Everything works here though. Pretty epic stout, it doesn't have that coffee taste I get from a lot of stouts (I hate coffee!) But there is a hint of roasted malts on the finish so it does have a hint of it. Really freaking easy to drink @ 6.5% ABV

tonight I'm drinking

MY GOD this is a good Belgian, It's pretty strong @ 9.5% but it's not hard to drink and it's not very pricey. It's clean and has a soft bitterness. I also picked up a bottle of

5.5% so it's pretty mellow, the name makes the immature side of me giggle a little. It's a goooooood beer. It's not too bitter not hoppy at all and the swirl of Honey's perfect. It's not sweet but you can taste it. This is a freaking great summer beer. Thumbs up to Belching Beaver.

Tonight is Buffalo Trace on the rocks. No gimmicks...just a good sipping bourbon for $20 a bottle.

An ~1oz pour (neat) of Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. Really enjoying this bottle, I will miss it when it's gone.

You convinced me, so as a Father's Day gift to myself I picked both of these up. The Three Philosophers was really good. I was worried about the cherry, but ironically, I actually found myself wishing they had dialed it up a little more; I felt like it could have used a little more tartness to cut through the richness of the malts. The bottle specifically mentions pairing it with a rich cheese, so I had a nice aged Gouda alongside it, and it was a splendid pairing. Very good, but I feel like a little bit more fruit would have been welcome.

The Brother Thelonious is also rich, and sweet, but I think I enjoy it more than the Three Philosophers. Excellent malt backbone, great hop character throughout... just a really solid beer. I think it helps that I drank it at a warmer temp than the Three Philosophers, so that rich malt is getting balanced with other flavors. Or maybe I'm just drunk, because between these two beers I think they contain approximately all the alcohol in the world. Either way, great selections, they've made for a happy Father's Day indeed.
