In Finland, the term "long drink" has come to mean a combination of gin and grapefruit soda (kind of like a gin Paloma with no lime or salt). It's actually pretty tasty with a basic London dry gin and Squirt.

First up: Hot Buttered Rum.


1 small slice soft butter
1 tsp brown sugar
ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg
Vanilla extract
2 ounces dark rum
Hot water



1. Place the butter, sugar and spices at the bottom of an Irish coffee glass or mug.
2. Mix well or muddle.
3. Pour in the rum and hot water.
4. Stir.

What rum did you use? A nice amber rum is your best bet; Appleton V/X or better. If you used Bacardi Gold... yeah, that's gonna suck. But actually, yeah, hot buttered rum is shit. You take a perfectly serviceable alcohol and then load it up with... butter? What ginormous gastropod thought that was a good idea? "Hey, got a new idea for a drink; bourbon and mayonnaise topped with heavy cream and chocolate sprinkles and garnished with a jar of bacon grease." Fucking hell.

If you still have some rum, make a nice daiquiri. 2 ounces of rum, the juice from 1/2 a lime (no bottled shit) and a couple teaspoons of sugar (to taste). Shake it with ice, strain it into a drinking vessel of some sort, BAM. It'll take your mind right off the fact that you drank butter.
