I went for the beer and it's delicious.

Good choice. Even a mediocre burger is pretty damned good, so it comes down to the beer.

Hennessy Cognac XO (750 ML)
$239.99
94 PTS WINE ENTHUSIAST, DOUBLE GOLD SAN FRANCISCO SPIRITS COMPETITION. Fat, rich flavors with hints of charred oak and a slight sweetness in the finish.

If I'm lucky and it's in stock at my local Total Wine, this lovely stuff fresh from Iceland.
Good cognac is tasty. None of the generally available Hennessy products are good cognac.
coworker turned me onto this, it's great.
I had a bottle of Hennessy Paradis once (not all in one sitting) and it was excellent. The Richard Hennessy is supposed to be excellent as well, but fuck $4,500 a bottle for liquor. The XO is fairly meh, especially with other great cognacs in the price range (like Martell Cordon Bleu or Hardy Noces d'Or). But generally, cognac prices are absurd for what you get. A bottle of Remy Martin VSOP goes for around $50 here, and it's basically on par with a $15 bottle of Paul Masson VSOP domestic brandy. At the bleeding edge, I don't know if there's a liquor on Earth I prefer to cognac, but when that bleeding edge costs literally a hundred times as much as something that's perfectly decent, a reasonable person has to say "fuck that." Good cognac is a revelatory experience, but that revelation quickly becomes "did I really just spend a month's rent on that?"
As I said, I much prefer sticking to armagnac and domestic brandy from a couple distilleries which haven't gone totally out of their god damn minds on price. Even worse the whiskey world is now in about the same place as cognac.
Boulevard and Odell's Silver Anniversary Ale
The whiskey world might be getting crazy at the high end, but the low end of the scale is still sensible. You can get some great whiskies for under $25; you can't get ANY cognac that cheap, and any cognac under $100 is pretty terrible. Even Scotch has more reasonable pricing than that.

Happy to have added to my cellar:
Dogfish Head Brewery - Olde School Barleywine - 15% ABV barleywine! Can't wait! One in the fridge - 3 shelved.
