I tried Highland Park last year for the first time in awhile, and was disappointed cause it wasn't like it used to be. It used to be a sherried, "typical" highland malt. They got a new master distiller, and it's now peatier, with a bolder flavor; like an Islay light. Taking it as it is, it's grown on me. A nice dram, and would be a good introduction to peatier whiskies. It's not so over the top that a novice would say "Fuck No!".
They're now playing on their viking roots, and using a lot of Scandinavian imagery/verbiage on the product. This particular bottle is smokey, with some tasty caramel notes following the smoke. Forget what I paid, but it was on the cheaper side. Maybe $45? Definitely worth a try, especially if you live some place that gets decent weather. eg cool, wet, and/or snowy. It's perfect for those times.
