Nom nom nom.... delicious flight with donuts...

Donuts were infused with protein and are actually a negative amount of calories. I swear.

EDIT: This is incredible. Is it Scotch, is it Bourbon? The 59% gives is it a nice bite and it is super peaty. It's from Jura so this is Island scotch. Is it the perfect Scotch? Maybe.

I have been enjoying fine Kentucky bourbon lately. I actually like this one more than the 10yo single barrel.

Try their straight rye; the cheap(er) one. It's quite good. Almost bought a bottle yesterday, but went with Laphroaig 10yr scotch and Asbach Uralt brandy instead.

Laphroaig is always a good option. As far as Kentucky Bourbon goes I have tried Michters and Angels envy. I found the latter to be far to refined for my tastes. This Michters small batch hits the spot even over the 10yo single barrel. I will have to check out the rye. Cheers!

It's good, but I find all brandy/cognac unremarkable. I like it for what it is, and have had the major brands, but find it hard to distinguish between them. It's a far second to whisky for something interesting. I can buy five brands of scotch and get five distinct experiences. Brandy is brandy afaic.

I got it today when I went to the liquor store for a big bottle of Famous Grouse. That's my standard spirit when I'm not looking for distinction. I checked the shelves for something else, and ran across this. Picked it up, put it back, looked some more, and said "fuck it", and bought the bottle. ~$10 more than Asbach Uralt, and not any better :shrugs:

Like I said earlier, it's nighttime somewhere... Took the day off cause it's raining, and to cry over my thumb. Not real cold out, but it's rainy and cool, so I opened the door, lit a fire, and have the cat in my lap. A glass of brandy goes great with fires and cats.

So I "won" the PA limited release lottery in that I was able to purchase a bottle of 10 year Old Rip Van Winkle for a touch over MSRP. It was $90 after taxes / shipping. While it is not a pappy I'm still excited to try it. I've been planning get togethers with various friends to crack it open....now accepting friend applications.

I tried Highland Park last year for the first time in awhile, and was disappointed cause it wasn't like it used to be. It used to be a sherried, "typical" highland malt. They got a new master distiller, and it's now peatier, with a bolder flavor; like an Islay light. Taking it as it is, it's grown on me. A nice dram, and would be a good introduction to peatier whiskies. It's not so over the top that a novice would say "Fuck No!".

They're now playing on their viking roots, and using a lot of Scandinavian imagery/verbiage on the product. This particular bottle is smokey, with some tasty caramel notes following the smoke. Forget what I paid, but it was on the cheaper side. Maybe $45? Definitely worth a try, especially if you live some place that gets decent weather. eg cool, wet, and/or snowy. It's perfect for those times.

Planning on trying out a 6-pack of 2 Towns Rhubarb hard cider this weekend.

Should be interesting.

I remember when this was a tasty budget choice; ~$25. I just paid $53 for the bottle. Sigh... I wish people would decide scotch sucks, so the prices would get sane again. You're pretty much looking at a $50 bill to get anything decent anymore, and prices go up quick from there.

I here you. The good part is nice scotch lasts a while as it's not a casual drink.

Not planning on drinking both of them tonight, though.(Might start with the raspberry hard cider...)
