What are you guys doing with your quads?

Ours is used in a video production environment and sees everything from CGI work in Maya to video editing and special effects work in Adobe Premiere and AfterEffects, to final DVD production in Scenarist.
The Adobe apps can suck every ounce out of the Q6600, even at 3GHz. Following this, is a move to quad Q6600s in Blade servers. Ours certainly get fully utilized.

RMA-ing it, because I think it runs too hot (75 to 80 full load). I plan on doing a lot of audio/video transcoding and web development/possibly software development.

And let's not forget gaming, especially when games start to really take advantage of multi-core.

Have you considered getting an aftermarket cooler? $45 - 50 is well worth it for Q6600 since not only will it lower your temps, but let you overclock way past $1000 quads.

Extreme series is a waste of $ and has always been. I am assuming you are not much of a gamer considering blowing $1k on a processor with X1900XT 256 and a 19 inch monitor. In that case, if you need the cpu power, then might be better to wait to build an 8 core Phenom system.

I'm surprised no one use their Q6600 for heating purposes considering it's a 100W part after OC, can be quite hot.

Well ill be as happy as a pig in sh*t when they release info stating that to run certain things on crysis youll need a Quad core, itll run fine on dual core but you wont be able to turn on blah blah blah..........to be honest though i upgraded from a single core Opteron 146 so ive opted for quad core because i initially saved my money for an E6600 and found that i could get the Q6600 for the same price, so what would you of done?

All my quads, 5 to be exact, will be folding again once this heat dies down a bit. The electricity bill raped me hardcore with the AC on most of the day. Dad is retired so he leaves the AC on.

Once it gets a bit cooler, they'll start pushing 100k points on bionic WCG.

dont lie aigomorla, everybody knows you buy quads as an excuse to buy more watercooling gear...

hot? are you serious? I went to LA a few years ago in april. It never got above 71. I'm lucky to see 2 weeks total per year with a high below 71. of course, with all those quad cores you have, it might be a bit warmer in LA these days...

lmao, if that game came out tomorrow all these dual core gents will be queuing for the Quads.

in regards to temps, i got my Q6600 yesterday and when i first got it up and running the temps were a little high 30 degrees idle but under Prime95 its was right up to high 60's, but after a bit of a tidy inside and moving fans around and adding my side case fan my load temps are 55 degree's and this is stock 2.4 on that usless stock intel cooler.

i want to be hitting 3.2Ghz but i need a much better cooler......any suggestions ?

my house you mean... I have central air, and they are easy to cool compared to the Pentium D's, and my dual 248 opterons were pretty hot also.
