Yes, you guessed it, for this year at least, Selfies are more dangerous than Shark attack :awe:

http://www.kansascity.com/news/nation-world/article36283344.html

So far this year, eight people in the world have died from shark attacks, while 12 of us have died while taking a selfie, including a 19-year-old in Texas who died this month after shooting himself in the neck while taking one.

So you tell us. Which is more dangerous?

Mashable crunched numbers about the dangers of selfie-taking when a 66-year-old Japanese tourist died last week after falling down stairs and suffering a heart attack while taking a selfie at the Taj Mahal. His was the 12th selfie-related death this year.

“To put that in perspective, in 2015 there have so far been eight deaths caused by shark attacks. It sounds like a joke, but unfortunately it isn't,” writes Mashable.

“The deaths are a tragic reminder to travelers that focusing on a phone screen instead of unfamiliar surroundings is not safe.”

Unfamiliar surroundings like, say, in the bear-riddled woods.

Falling while taking a selfie is a particular danger; four people have died that way this year.

Other selfie-takers have died while trying to snap a pic with a train. (We’ll reserve comment on that since it’s very mean to speak ill of the dead.)

People just seem more willing these days to put themselves in danger to grab a great pic for Twitter or Instagram.

The Australian tourist who fell off a cliff while taking a selfie in Norway. A tourist gored to death in Spain as he took a selfie while running with bulls. Two men blowing themselves to bits in Russia while taking a selfie holding a grenade – with the pin pulled out.

Authorities have started taking measures to keep the selfie-happy public safe.

For instance, officials at Waterton Canyon in Colorado last month closed the park to visitors to protect them against bears there.

“The current situation is not conducive for the safety of our visitors or the well-being of the wildlife,” recreation manager Brandon Ransom wrote in a blog.

“We've actually seen people using selfie sticks to try and get as close to the bears as possible, sometimes within 10 feet of wild bears.”

Officials at Yellowstone National Park also issued warnings this summer after five people taking sefies were gored when they stood too close to bison.

Elsewhere on the planet, Australian officials fenced off a 16-story rock that looks like a wedding cake because people kept climbing it to take selfies.

In July, the Russian Interior Ministry launched a campaign warning people about taking “self-photography” that “could cost you your life.”

The warning came after a 21-year-old woman in Moscow accidentally shot herself in the head as she took a selfie of herself holding a gun. She survived.

“A selfie with a weapon kills,” warned a government brochure of selfie tips

Earlier, in May, a teenage Russian boy died when he came into contact with live wires on a railway bridge as he climbed on it to take a selfie, according to the Daily Mail.

This prompted the Russian interior ministry to issue a road sign-style leaflet and video warning that taking a “cool selfie could cost you your life.”

So, to recap, here’s a short list of things it’s probably not a good idea to take selfies with: Lions and tigers and bears.

And trains.

Oh my!

I'm sure selfies are.

Shark attacks have always been pretty rare, I've heard of some pretty stupid selfies on a regular basis.

"Authorities have started taking measures to keep the selfie-happy public safe."

Why? Just let natural selection work.

Not sure I see a problem here (selfie deaths)... seems to me like it's cleaning up the gene pool.
