One day, when you finish school and get a "real" job, you'll be able to sit around and nef all day while someone else pays for it too. Until then...study hard!!
i sit at my desk writing programs to control wells and pumps. sometimes i et up new computer systems, other times im organizing a workload for a crew. i have plenty of time while on the phone, waiting for software or putting stuff together to post here and read here, but there are those days (like yesterday) where i barely take time for lunch. tomorrow i get to go out in the field and work, so no net for me.
Mr. Mom here, got all the time in the world. Beer whenver I want it, sleep till noon. Life is good for daddy! And I still don't bother posting much, haha.
IT.
I honestly don't know how to explain what I do. My next resume update is going to put me in a pickle.
I am a project manager, program analyst, business analyst, script writer, db admin (okay that one's a stretch), technician, software support, supervisor and coordinator.
Yet, I don't feel that important or that knowledgeable.
Although I have noticed something about my new hometown.
When I got out of the Navy I took a job up in Eugene, Oregon. After I was here a little while I asked a native Eugenian (?) why the heck there were so many kids out and about during the day.
She said that Oregon doesnt have a very good school system and nobody (kids especially) takes school seriously. Theres a ton of them home schooled because parents are appalled at the quality of education, many kids just go skipping frequently and they dont seem to have truant officers around here.
Many schools also have a program where the students are gone for at least one period a day. Not to go to a work program or outside study, just one hour where they get to goof off. She also told me that it seems like at least one day a week is off for some reason or another. On average the kids only have to go about 4 days a week here.
My friend said we she has kids she's going to leave Oregon. She doesnt want them in these schools.
Right now its still summer of course, but when school starts up again it wont seem that much different.
I sometimes wonder if thats the situation here on AT. Even when school gets going again you still see a crapload of inane, silly posts.
most people work in front of computers and have internet access. the guys who run IT for my company dont block any sites, so i can post whenever i have time.
you also cant expect most cube workers to sit there and do work for 8 straight hours non-stop. there will be downtime - if u limit internet access people will just get up from their cubes and walk around or chat up with neighbors.
3D modeling /rendering, work from home.
I have alot of down time while I wait for the computer to render out a scene.
Sometimes its, make a change, render, wait 6 minutes, make a change, wait 6 minutes, rinse/repeat
