I might have you beat for most depressing colony. Started my first game not really knowing what was going to happen (experienced with DF, so figured I'd just wing it). Unfortunately for me I should have checked my colonists abilities, because >all< of them started with pacifist. On top of all of them becoming vegan by virtue of being unable to hunt, I got attacked by a rabid squirrel or rabbit or some such very early on. After chewing on the colonists for a while, it went after a turkey, which promptly went on a murderous rampage and killed the little blighter. This happened, oh, 3 or 4 more times (same turkey, only had one) before my first raid, at which point my turkey promptly fell, followed by my vegan pacifist colonists being killed, huddling in a break-room. The meek shall inherit the earth, my ass.

Nice. My first game was really short. I figured why build a structure when there appears to be a perfectly good one right next to me. All I need to do is knock out one wall and I will have a ready built habitat. 5 minutes later everyone was dead.

Lmao, sounds about right. I had a funny feeling there'd be Fun(tm) behind one of those walls so I left mine alone until I got some actual hardware, on my second game. Second game went fully to launch, very smoothly I might add. Turns out if you train a pack of 35 timber wolves and maintain an ample supply of raider body parts, you don't have to worry that much about.. well, anything.

I'm sorry to be the bringer of bad news but the release date of Subnautica has been pushed back to mid-January.

I'm afraid not. They updated their Trello roadmap a few weeks ago.

Yeah i looked after your post yesterday, and that sucks. Looks like i will have to find another game to get me through the winter. Empyrion just got a big update so ill likely go back to it or 7 days to die.

Just started Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice. Loving it so far in a very weird way. The voices frankly have screwed me up and I'll have to play something else before i sleep to rub off that dark depressing feeling. Looking forward to play it tomorrow though.

I just started ELEX and despite only being a handful of hours in it's quite engrossing. It's not without it's quirks and at times the difficulty scale is a little rollercoasterish but the story is quite good and the characters interesting.

I started Empyrion this week (I've been on vacation). It does not appear to have any sort of story at all, but it is a fun survival sandbox with a great building toolkit. I don't know how long it will hold my attention, but I've already put like 30 hours into it just trying to build a hovercraft, so I have already gotten more out of it then most games in my library.

I also bought the 7 Days to Die 2 pack on the Steam sale and intend to play it co-op with my teenage step-son this coming weekend.

Playing on a server is better performance wise however if its just you and your Son 7 days to die runs fine on a machine with 8GB ram. One tip, check the password box because ultimately your privately hosted game will show up in the server list.
I'm not going to give you any game tips because figuring stuff out is half the fun in 7 days. Only one I will give is avoid underground bases they are just too safe.

I have 2 identical (outdated) gaming PCs each with 16GB ram, i5-2500k processor, and Radeon HD 7850, and a HTPC with a 8GB Ram, Pentium G620 Processor, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti GPU. What would the be best setup for a 2 play co-op game?

Two players runs fine on my Q9650 with 8GB. The amount of ram seems to be more important than the CPU.
There is a public server list you can get into if it runs like crap, generally they are pretty good just occasionally you get on one that gets shut off or is filled with ass clowns.

Wait is the HTPC a 3rd machine if so maybe load the server client on that one and use it as the server. Play on the other two machines.
Steam server files are under tool(?) in steam. I've never tried one from home but I have read about it. Steam allows two logins provided one is working as a server.

Edit: I just looked in steam inside your game list, hover on Library, drop down to Tools then you will see an alphabetical list of server tools for your games. Look for 7 Days To Die dedicated server.
*When you are running a machine as a dedicated server you cannot use that same machine to play. You would need 3 machines in total for two people to play.

Yes, the HTPC is a third PC on my network. I'll give running it as a dedicated server a try. The only problem is that it is likely that someone will want to use it to watch a movie while we are playing. Thank you for the info about where to find it, and that you can run it with out a 3rd license.

Yeah empyrion is in very dire need of some story. I tried to get back into it yesterday made it 2 hours and gave up. Lots of changes to what you can do and items and whatnot but still nothing to actually do as far as game/story advancement.

Destiny 2. My friend bought it for me, so I tried it out. It's been fun, but I'm finding myself losing interest quite rapidly. Gets kinda boring once you unlock all your skills and only really have micro-incremental gear upgrades to look forward to (kinda like end game Diablo 3).

Cuphead and recently Throne of Lies. It's basically a more diverse version of Mafia/Wearwolves Within with 16 players at once. Addictive as hell.

I'm in a lull at the moment but here are my go-to games...
Path of Exile: I've played this since the original closed beta. It's the best game going if you ask me. I had a blast with the current league, making it to level 95 and beating every boss in the game for the first time. Still playing a little, but mainly waiting for the next league in December.

Grim Dawn: The new expansion just came out. I leveled a necromancer through Veteran Difficulty, then got bored, found a hack and farmed end-game for a while on my old character. It's fun, but with no economy or anyone to play with I only play it when I get tired of PoE

Hex: Hex is my card game. It's pretty good. The single player campaign is VERY good. Multiplayer is good if you don't mind getting destroyed.

Fortnite: I don't really like this game, but I purchased it so I play it. It's way to tedious for me to constantly re-make my guns. Otherwise I think the game would be a blast.

Blizzard games: I load up Heroes or Starcraft or even Warcraft 3 sometimes. I'll probably watch some of the matches this weekend at BlizzCon.

Finally tried out Lone Echo yesterday and it was just as impressive as I was hoping it would be and maybe a bit more. I noticed a lot of like stuttering when I first started playing, when I would turn my head to look around, but I either got used to it or it stopped or something cause when I stopped playing I didn't really notice it. Kinda weird. I have noticed though in any VR game that if your goggles aren't in just the right position that you can get visual issues, especially blurriness. My headset might need a bit more adjustment.

But man what a fricking game! Just impressive as all hell and so well done. It takes some getting used to the movement and interactions but it's not real hard. I'm probably just particularly a dumbass when it comes to catching on too. One part in particular stands out to me. Olivia (the human captain of the ship; you play as a robot/android) was doing something, maybe waiting for me to get to her location. I was slowly making my way towards her and ended up behind her with her, shall we say, "booty" quite right in front of me. Being a gentleman I decided to put my hands on her hips and perform a rather vulgar movement. Then she goes "Jack!" and swats me away from behind her! I just busted out laughing cause it was unexpected and so natural. LMAO, just awesome. Cannot wait to play some more.
