Wife and kids were away for 2 weeks, so I went on a gaming binge. Finished:

Cyberpunk 2077 - Seemed kind of easy (played on hard mode, probably should have restarted on Very Hard after a few hours), only a couple of boss fights were challenging. Story was good, but not engaging enough to me to want to replay doing a different build. Got easily distracted doing all the side missions so probably wound up a bit overleveled.

Death's Door - Pretty fun, a bit shallow.

Tunic - very fun, kind of felt like a throwback to old zelda games. Lots of cool secrets and puzzles. (mentioned earlier in the thread)

Current game:
Kunitsu-Gami - Cool art style. Gameplay is an interesting mix of hack and slash and tower defense. Combat is sort of shallow, but the tower defense aspects make things interesting. Couple of hours in, liking it so far.

I'm thinking about giving the Viewfinder puzzle game a try as it is 40% off on Steam.

Playing The Sinking City

I don't know what it is with me and quirky semi obscure games.

Story is good even though ""Lovecraftian" has been overplayed in games.

The game reuses assets far too much to the point where it becomes distracting in that it makes the world seem bland and less lived in.

I played the new Between the Ashes campaign for Freespace 2, great story and some clever new gameplay. BTA is the premier mod from that community these days and is like a new commercial game in itself.

I'm now looking at some Battlezone 2 mods, especially Forgotten Enemies for the remastered BZCC. I never played the original one.

Busy summer with kids mostly, however:

I've been playing RDR2 with the new rig.
Overwatch still scratches the itch for competitive online play.

That's it mostly. Man, all these titles and I'm not really craving any of them much now.

In my backlog:
  • Elden Ring - I'll get back to this and try the DLC.
  • Ghost of Tsushima - Very good. It's on pause due to RDR2.
  • FF7Remake - the beginning is so slow... haven't touched.
  • TLOU2 - Meh, can't stand the slow beginning. I'm given too many choices at once I think.
  • SF6 - this was fun for awhile. It was good to get back into a fighting game. I even reached Platinum which isn't too hard and puts you in average online. I played Ken and Zangief. The wake-up mind games are a ton of fun. Zangief 3-shotting an enemy is hilarious after they pressed so many buttons and combos.
  • Forza Horizon 5 - Pretty. I launch it time to time.
  • Hell Divers 2 - Man, this game completely fell off. I think their playerbase is 7%~ of its peak now.
  • Returnal - meh.
  • R-Type Final 2/3 - this scratches the 90's shooter itch. I was told by the shmup nerds that this is good as a modern shooter. It's alright so far.

Completed Elden Ring base game last week, simply amazing. Just need a couple more achievements for 100%. Taking a short break before I go into the DLC.

I've also been playing Yakuza 0 the past couple weeks, the story is amazing, its a great Japanese drama, also has some really quirky humor in the short side quests, fun brawler.

Had a try of Chernobylite but it doesn't gel with me. Too many restrictions on the player from the devs imo. Glad I got it with massive discount!
Tried playing Atomic Heart, but after the game building shaders up for the first run of it, I got stuck on the very first loading screen with a weird icon informing me to press it & start the game... well think that was easy? nah, no keyboard or mouse controls would work, period. Steam verified files but problem still there... refund requested & granted. Never have I seen a f*** up like this with any game ever.
Going to try a demo of Tainted Grail: The fall of Avalon, just wish more devs had the option of trying a demo before committing $ to the product!

Currently playing Settlement Survival. First PC game I've played in a long time. It's a city building game similar to Banished. Colony arrives and you have to keep them alive. It's a fun and relaxing game that I can play on my laptop while the wife is watching her shows.

Can you expand on this? I've had Chernobylite on my wishlist for a long time, but just haven't caught up with my backlog and current games to where I'm buying new ones and this was the first one on my "next to buy" list.

Spoiler

Cant' level up unless you get the cooperation from a companion. That sucks imo.
Not open world enough, too many in game barriers to exploring.
Can't take down guards, even at point blank range on normal difficulty.
Too much conversation going on like watching a movie between the character & his lost love.
On a brighter note, at least the game supports 21:9 screen.

Having a hard time finding my footing after my moded Dragon Age Inquisition run. On one hand I just want more Bioware esq narrative, on the other hand I don't want to play another Bioware game or just re-run Inquisition.

Have a bunch of stuff sort of semi going right now, we'll see when something lands.

-Dragon Age 2 - never played the DLC before, and got the ultimate edition for $3 or whatever it was on Steam recently so tempted to fire this up but see issue above.

-Manifold Garden: stunning, beautiful, mind bending puzzle game... But the complete lack of narrative and brutally non-linear puzzles feels a bit much right now.

-Ori and the Will of the Wisps: love meteoidvanias, been a while since I've played one, but also feeling a bit tepid about jumping into a long side scroller style game.

-Halo 3 ODST: kids really want me to return as John Halo to smack down covenant with Fifi the brute hammer. But ODST's intro is giving me a wild tonal shift from Halo 1-3, it's also dark AF and difficult to figure out where to go with the samey environment. Kids are also disappoint that I am not John Halo.

-Dawn of War 3: am about 2/3 of the way through the campaign, but stopped several months ago for no discernable reason. Love 40K and the lore but RTS games can be real time wasters and soft lock you for a bad build an hour into a mission.

Maybe it's time to just go touch grass for a while and wait till the desire hits me again.

I'm just getting into Diablo IV. Got a lvl 22 necro right now and just working my way through the game and learning the skill tree. I'm having fun with it so far but I'm not sure it's something I'd continue to play through all the seasons.

Been playing Lies of P, Black Myth Wukong and may try Lords of the Fallen. After Elden Ring & its DLC, I've been craving for the Souls like genre since I'm late to the party and missed the entire Dark Souls decades rise to popularity.

I'd recommend Nioh 2, combat is second to none and is closer to Wukong than the typical combat of a soulsborne game, Lords of the Fallen has better exploration though, the Surge 2 is also pretty decent. You can always binge on the older soulsborne games and Sekiro if you haven't already, may need to pick up a PS5 for Bloodborne and Demon Souls.

Got it, thanks!

Perfect timing, since I've just finished Wukong. Nioh 2 sounds fun and Sekiro I picked up when it was on sale, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. For whatever reason, I can only focus on one game at a time, and depending on the game, I could be on that one game for quite some time, e.g., was on Elden Ring & DLC for a year and change.

Combat systems take some getting used to once I moved on from ER. Lies of P initially felt clunky with a different dodge mechanic, but once I adjusted, the game was fairly enjoyable. The parry mechanic is one that just seems very easy for me and Lies of P wasn't much of an issue once I got used to the timing, especially with The Two Dragons katana, one of the most fun weapons I've ever used.

Same with Wukong. There was a period of adjustment, e.g., took me some time to get used to the heavy attack windup. Afterwards, the game was except for a few bosses (I think I found almost all of them) were fairly routine and very fun. Unlike ER and Lies of P, there was less of an emphasis on the rigid mechanics but allows for more of reactive free flow type of combat. In my view, it's definitely easier than the others, except for a few bosses.

Does Nioh 2 ever go on sale? I will definitely pick it up. Heck, I may get bored later this morning and just buy it now and start playing.

Yes, Nioh 2 does go on sale pretty often, usually every few months, if not a Koei Tecmo publisher sale, its usually on sale during Steam seasonal/holiday sales. Combat is like a very fast paced Dark Souls with combos, stance switching, counters, blocks and parrys, along with monster abilities and transformations. A word of warning, the game has a lot of inventory management, thats my only gripe with the game.

Thanks!

I will definitely pick it up at some point. It's 50 bucks now, but I'll check periodically for the sale. By the way, according to Steam, "Players like you love this game." LOL
