with my system in sig i have an idle of ~48c and load, running rthdribl, is hitting low 80's which i think is a bit high. thats at stock, 450/1200. what are you guys seeing?

is there any other program besides riva tuner to monitor temps while gaming?

BFG 7800GTX stock - 55C idle

I haven't remembered to check the temp after full load.

Running the 7800GTX at 490/1300 with the CPU X2 4200+ OC'd to 2600, I get idle GPU temps at 60, and full load while running EQ2 or CoH of 75. Case temp is 61, and CPu temp is 60 at idle, and maxes out at 64 under load. I have all cool and quiet and powersaving stuff turned off.

I use the Nvidia Monitor utility to see the temps.

I have this all installed in small tower case, with 4 hard drives and 2 CD/DVD drives. So it's a little packed in there.

This evening I'm going to open some of the stupid case places that they drill holes in the case as the "vent" for the fans to suck and blow air through. On previous cases that had a large impact on cooling.

I'll update this with changes in temp after I cut open the places for the fans.

To the OP. Nvidia's max temp before throttling the GPU is 115, so if you are at the low 80's as your max, though it sounds high, it's still a ways below where the card will throttle itself. If you aren't seeing graphical glitches, or getting slowdowns in heavy graphical games, I wouldn't worry to much about it.

yeah, i know its in the acceptable range. still anything over 80 usually concerns me. i guess more so is the jump from idle to load. a 30c+ swing seems high.

additionally, suddenly my chipset temps have gone bonkers. i may have bumped the fan when installing so i'll see when i boot it back up. but its the dfi nf4 so the cards back end sits right on top of it.

ahh well, i'll see how they go tonight.

Yeah I wasn't happy with the placement of the chipset and the resulting fan on the DFI NF4 UT-D SLI. The first pci-e slot, forces the end of the graphics card to sit right on top of it. I can only guess that it doesn't help either one to run cool. Especially when the NF4 chip is already a hot little chip.

As you can see above, my case temps and CPU start at 60ish. Where before this motherboard they were in the low 40's. But then the difference between idle and load is a lot smaller. I'm not completely sure that the nvidia montoir utility is reporting the correct temperatures, and some hardware forums are saying that the dfi boards it don't report correctly with nvidia monitor.

Whenever I reboot quickly and check the temps in the bios they are around 52 versus the 60 or 61 reported by the monitor program. But the 8-9 degree difference could just be because of the reboot.

you mean the cards control panel when you say the monitoring utility? aside from the bugs in some specific drivers (71.89 for one) i always thought that was fairly accurate.

i use the ITE or mbm for my board/cpu temps and they've always been good. my chipset usually idles ~40 and loads ~48, tops.

i'm about done messing with this other comp so i'll check it again.

well, looks like they settles a bit already. 30 ins of rthdribl and i didn't hit 80c.

i guess i have to run the chipset hsf a bit faster. maybe i'll try re-applying the as5 or look into a new cooler. still getting around 54c if i don't run like 5000 rpm.

That's exactly what Anandtech observed in their review of the EVGA 7800GTX so your temps are fine.

yeah, i actuallymissed or forgot what anand had said on the temps. makes me feel better. now if i can get my chipset temps back down

maybe its because more of the card is actually on top of the chipset cooler. at any rate, thats somewhat stabilized as well but still ~8c higher than pre-7800gtx. again still with in range though.
