Intel E6300 (65nm) on an Asus P5B Deluxe
4GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia 8600GT
320GB SATA HDD
Vista 32-bit

A significant upgrade from their previous comp which was some sort of 1Ghz AMD chip with like 512mb RAM. I gave it to them last christmas

You know you're a geek when you can list the full specs of your parents' computer.

My mom 'n dad are using some old Dells with Pentium 4's and Windows XP. But hey, they still work... Heck my dad has a 14-year old HP LaserJet 5P that still works.

Athlon XP 2400+
Abit mobo?
GeForce 2 MX200?
A random bunch of DDR, 768MB total?

If he ever decides he needs a new comp, I have an htpc he could upgrade to. I could just use my laptop as an htpc anyways.

E2200
ECS mobo w/P945 chipset, also has an IGP
2x512MB Kingston DDR2-533

It doesn't sound like much, but it does what I want when I want to.

My dad also has an uber old HP laserjet he's still using as well. Unfortunately, none of the newer computers have parallel port anymore. I think the ECS mobo in my htpc has the parallel port pins on the mobo. Kinda useless though, since I don't have anything to connect the parallel cable to the pins on the mobo.

The same as my company's Windows SBS 2003 server (running 24/7 since 2005):

Dell PowerEdge SC420
P4 Celeron 2.53 GHz 775
512 GB ECC DDR2
80 GB SATA hard drive
Built-in ATI Rage 8 MB video
XP Professional
CDROM drive
SoundBlaster 16 (I think)

Not state-of-the art, but the server was only $215 in 2005. I try to buy my servers when Dell is closing them out.

Just upgraded Mom this past weekend:

Athlon II 620
4GB DDR3 1333
640GB HD
Blue-Ray / DVD Burner
ATI 4670
WinXP

Her last system was about 7 years old. She was running Win2K.
I'm hoping this one lasts her just as long, if not longer. The new system was put together with the intention of going to Win7 - 64, when she's ready.

But they also have a laptop that's more poweful.
My old hardware (3500+ proc, 2 GB mem and a 7600 GT) will go to my GF once dell has a good monitor deal.

My parents have three computers they got from their business when they retired. Their primary home computer is a Compaq Presario R3000 laptop. A big desktop replacement thing with a 17'' screen. Has an Athlon XP3000+, one of the rare Dublin core models which were the precursor to the Athlon64 based Semprons. Has 768mb DDR and a Geforce 4 MX with XP Home.

My mom's work computer has an Athlon XP 1600 and 1gb DDR, with XP Pro. Runs slow as molassas. I don't know what's in my dad's system.

I'm trying to push them to getting something more modern like a MacMini to replace these old systems.

Upstairs PC circa 2006 Dell (BTX layout!) with an

- Athlon X2 3800+
- 3 GB DDR2 memory
- nVidia GeForce 7300 LE video card
- Seagate 320 GB hard drive (7200.10, I think), and a WD10EADS TB drive

But I suspect they'll be getting one of the new 27-inch iMacs this holiday season.

Downstairs PC the pater uses is the Antec Fusion HTPC in my signature, with an Athlon X2 4850e, 4 GB memory, and an ASUS HD 3850.

My parents have one of my old systems

AMD Athlon 3800x2
2 gb ram
2x80gb hard drive
And i think a 8400gs video card or some variant of it
Win XP Pro

Runs nice and quick. No need for them to upgrade for years yet. Although I may put Win 7 on for the better security since they're a bit lax.
