Crickets...

I'm kinda maxed out on all the Jim Rohn audio books so looking for suggestions

These things seem to be hit or miss if the narrator has a sucky/annoying voice.

I just finished up The Republic of Thieves, the third book of the Gentlemen Bastards series, yesterday. I'm not sure what I'll listen to next.

I love audio books. I lok for the unabridged versions. What's great also about audio books is I can play them at 1.5X-2.0X and I can listen in the car, gym or when I'm at home cleaning. The type of books are typically personal development, or biographies. I do have the audio book on the 3rd Reich, IT, and Columbine. All wonderful books.

I've listened to..

Power of Habit
Man's Search for Meaning
Think and Grow Rich
10X Rule
Sell or Be Sold
Rich Dad Poor Dad
ETC...

The book I'm currently listening to is Can't Hurt Me, by David Goggins. Huge Goggins fan. The book just came out and I bought it immediately on Audible. Goggins is retired Navy Seal. He's only 43. Was severely beaten by his father as a young kid. Mom ran away, and both were on food stamps. Was racially abused in high school. Went to an all white school. Car spray painted with racial slurs. Cheated throughout his time at school. Could hardly read. Found himself at 20 spraying for cockroaches as an exterminator. Was 150lbs overweight. Wanted to find a career in pararescue but failed because of his fear of water. Came home from work, saw a commercial for hell week. Saw guys ringing the bell and giving up. Became obsessed with joining. The rest is history.

*Failed the test to get into Seal training. It's a difficult test. Buckled down and studied his ass off. He had to teach himself all over again. In his case, he had to study for hours. Broke it all down, and rewrote everything in notebooks. He got tutoring as well. Aced the test 4 months later.

*Went thru Hell Week 3X. Failed 2X because of health issues. Had to start over. Passed the 3rd time on a fractured leg.

*Went thru Ranger school which was much more difficult than Navy Seals training. He was stripped of his title, and started all over as a grunt. Ranger school training is no joke.

*Ran in ultra marathons. The first one that he ran almost killed him. It was a qualifier for a much larger race. He had to complete 100 miles. All he had with him was Ritz crackers and myoplex drinks. He was a power lifter. Not a runner. By mile marker 70 he had a fractured foot, toe nails were coming off. He was pissing blood, and was fainting in and out. He did it though. He has since run in ultra marathons, the Iron man, etc.

*Holds the world record for over 4000 pull-ups in a 24 hour time frame. Again. He failed 2X. Completed the record the 3rd time.

The book is read like a podcast. He has his ghostwriter read the book, and they both talk at the end of the chapter. So, it's like a book/podcast which is pretty interesting and works as an audible book.

The main thing he's trying to get across is to stop bitching about your circumstances. For example, if you're fat say it. "I'm a fat f*ck" and be real with yourself. If you want to start that business but you're in a comfortable safe job, tell yourself that you're a scared little bitch. It's going to be scary. It's going to suck. Deal with it. We don't want to do it because we are living in a world of comfort. Most of us aren't reaching our real potential, and it's a shame. Get uncomfortable. Do the things that most won't do. Live without regret.

Just finished Babylon's Ashes. About to start Persepolis Rising.

Audio books are fantastic. I love reading books myself as well, but it's nice when an audio book is done by a great reader. Perfect for car rides.

Don't usually listen to them, but I have Jack Kerouac On the Road on my phone. My music player indexed it, and I get an occasional chapter on random play. I like that.

Sword of Destiny, the second Witcher novel.

I like fantasy and scifi, historical fiction mostly. I listen to them during my commute so it would otherwise just be complete wasted time. The best part about the audiobooks though is they basically eliminate my road rage issues entirely.

Despite not minding lighter effort topics, it took me like 3 tries to get through that Ready Player One book. I didn't really love it, its more like I ran out of things to listen to and sort of endured it.

Look for any books by Simon Vance. He is awesome and he has done many different books. Including the 3 Musketeers, Dune and the Temeraire books (About fighting dragons in old Britain)

He has a complete Sherlock Holmes collection on Audible that's really well done.

I drive roughly 2 hours a day, so I listen to a lot of audiobooks, TED Talks, podcasts, etc. You might enjoy "Graphic Audio" novels, which are basically movies minus the picture. They have voices, sound effects, and sometimes even multiple people doing the different voices. Pretty fun, plus they have a phone app for listening on-the-go:

https://www.graphicaudio.net/

Right now, I'm listening to an audiobook on Audible (via Amazon) called "Pitch Anything":

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4FAMR6/

I do freelance IT work; negotiating with decision-makers for both jobs & budget, and also doing presentations, has become an increasing large part of my work. I've always wondered how to control conversations & keep the focus on the discussion at hand & keep the ball in my court, and the author has pretty much nailed the procedure & turned it into a usable methodology to follow to keep things on-course.

I love audiobooks. I'm currently listening to The Labyrinth Index by Charles Stross - book 9 in the Laundry series. Before this was Mavericks by Criag Alanson - book 6 of the Expeditionary Force series. After this will be Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch - book 7 of the Rivers of London. I can't wait for the next Nightlord book by Garon Whited.

If you like historical fiction, check out the following series by Ken Follett:

- Kingsbridge series (Pillars of the Earth, World Without End, Column of Fire) (middle ages through early modern peroid)
- Century trilogy (Fall of Giants, Winter of the World, Edge of Eternity) (WWI through Cold War)

I'm not exactly sure what it is about his works, but holy cow I get hooked on them. Just great characters and stories, I guess, plus intertwined with real history.

Have you heard of Grant Cardone? 10X Rule, Sell or Be Sold, If You're Not First, You're Last. He also has a book out titled "The Closer's Survival Guide." A lot of people like him, and a lot of people hate him. He doesn't hide the fact that he wants to sell you something. A lot of people consider him a bit scammy. I don't feel that way. I like his unabashed style. The 10X Ruke is a great book. I have that and "Sell or Be Sold" on audible.

YOu could check out the classic "How to Win Friends and Influence People." Another great classic. Oh, and check out Gary Vee. He's another one that many people like, and many dislike as well. He's all about give give give. Check out "The Thank You Economy" and "Jab Jab Jab Right Hook."

Pillars is actually probably my favorite historical fiction book, World Without End was almost as good but Column of Fire was kind of flat for me. The strength of those books is they're about ordinary people building things and refusing to give up, but Column of Fire wasn't really about ordinary people as much. Also the "victory by impregnating the villain's wife" trope became pretty repetitive when it happened a third time!

I haven't tried Century Trilogy yet though. Probably just because I've been really into medieval period stuff in general.

I'm sure people here are familiar with the long podcast History of Rome. The whole thing is good but the rise of rome and the high republic periods are particularly enjoyable.

I prefer to read when I have the time (unfortunately reading for pleasure is rare these days), but I like audio books since I can listen while doing chores, etc.

Currently listening to Dean Koontz's Phantoms.

Right now it's The Last Days of August, about what happened to August Aimes (adult film actress) and her suicide at 23. Pretty good so far. I like the inclusion of music in it, just adds to the experience. I think my favorite audiobook I've heard so far is the Aliens one I listened to recently, Alien: River of Pain. That one has multiple readers and includes sound effects and music as well; super good!

I was listening to I Am Legend but the narrator was starting to get on my nerves. It's too much back and forth between barely whispered and loud reading. I wish he was less dramatic in the reading; I mean you don't have to be totally flat and monotone but jeez, you're not trying to win an Oscar here. Just read the damn book normally. Anyway I'm taking a break from it but I'll finish it.

I originally started listening to Junk by Les Bohem as a break from I Am Legend but holy shit, I only managed like a half hour or so through it. I remembered reading the synopsis and it mentioned conspiracies and alien invasions and stuff and so that's why I picked it in the first place (I actually think it was one of those two free you get each month) but dang, it was none of that and had no indication of any sci-fi/aliens stuff at all. It was just some weird ass bullshit about a bunch of different characters, some of them drug addicts, and I was just like... "uhhhhh.... wtf is this shit." I actually tried to return it this morning but was told I had gotten it for free, so that's fine with me. I definitely DO NOT recommend this one although some reviewers like it so there ya go.

Every Man a Menace.

It's weird... and the narrator is horrible at portraying an African America.

Finished the August Aimes book, it was good.

Still listening to I Am Legend.

Have also downloaded "Panzer Ace: The Memoirs of an Iron Cross Panzer Commander" for when I finish Legend. I try to listen to my books in roughly the order I purchased them in... because of reasons, I guess.
