Book 2 of the Axis of time trilogy: Designated Targets

Basically an alt history sci-fi with future ships dropping into WW2.

I was surpised by how much I enjoyed the Harry Potter books. I read the series across about 5 weeks in late summer and loved them.

I should finish Stephen King's The Dark Half this afternoon. After that I don't really know what I'll read. I have a few books I've started but had trouble getting into that I'll probably pick back up. So either "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies", "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell", or Bram Stoker's "Dracula".

I too.

I started watching the movies with my son a couple of years back and fell in love with those. I wanted to read Deathly Hallows before the movie came out (I'm actually taking my son to the midnight showing on Friday). After I had read the Deathly Hallows, and saw how good it was, along with how much more "depth" (can I say that in regards to HP?) I wanted to go back and read them all. I get about an hour a day on the bus to read so its nice I have something "light" to just start the day off with, or wind it down with.

People often shrug them off, but they are great little tales I think.

I bought the first one as something to read on a flight back from Vegas in August. I figured I could read it all in the time of the flight and not worry about finishing the series. But I got hooked. My favorite book was Deathly Hallows and I've already got my midnight showing tickets and am going with a group of friends. I do slightly fear that at least two of my friends may be in costume though.

LOL
I took my (then 7yr old) son to the midnight showing of Half Blood Price (he fell asleep with 20 mins to go befre
Dumbledore dies
. I felt very bad for him. It was funny though as at that midnight showing I was the oldest by about 15 years and he was the younges by about 10. I was either the coolest or worst dad there

I'm reading Goodkind's "Confessor". I've actually had it on the shelf for a while, but never got around to it. I just got done reading several Frank Herbert "Dune" books, and am amazed at how horrible Goodkind's writing style is in comparison. And Herbert was no Hemingway either, so that's saying something.

Anyway, I mostly just wanted to see how the series ends. I hope it's not as bad as the ending to Brooks' "Straken".

Just finished Moneyball which I liked. Getting some ideas for what to read next from this thread. Also considering picking up William Gibson's latest book.

Ah, I didnt know there was more than 1 Dune book.

There are quite a few.

I've made it a goal to at least read the first series. Frank Herbert wrote a total of 6 books in the Dune series, his son and another author wrote some other books in the Dune universe (prequels, sequels, etc.).

At the least, I definitely want to make it through the first three: Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune. God Emperor of Dune is also a goal, basically just because of the name. If I make it through that, I figure I might as well read the last two books from Frank Herbert.
