What book(s) are you reading right now?

I finished JUMP COMMANDER: In Combat with the 505th and 508th Parachute Infantry Regiments, 82ndAirborne Division in World War II and Into the Fire: A Firsthand Account of the Most Extraordinary Battle in the Afghan War recently. Both were quite good but I enjoyed "Jump Commander" more.

Currently reading Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters right now. As I expected, it's excellent. If you liked HBO's "Band of Brothers" you should definitely pick it up. RIP Winters.

Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
Just started it last night so I can't say how good it is yet but I really like his The First Law series so I have high hopes for this one. Just noticed there is a newer book set in the The First Law world I missed called Red Country that I'm going to have to go back and read now.

I just red that as well. It's an ok book, but not as good as his earlier work. It doesn't really have the raw brutality of his earlier work, and the characters are not that interesting.

Only about 1/4 through it but so far it is the most interesting book of his I've read in a while.

The book is getting pretty good but I at this point (just finished chapter twelve) I think the first four chapters were an annoying waste of time and the reader would be well served by reading the opening paragraph of the book and just skipping to chapter five.

The book is pretty good but I'm sort of slogging through it while reading other stuff.

Finished it. It was okay but just okay. I guess after reading The Last Unicorn I expected more from the author.

I know this is kinda low-brow fiction, but what do people here think of the Star Wars EU books? I've read a couple here and there in the past, Truce at Bakura, Thrawn trilogy, and I think The Crystal Star, and I liked them well enough then. That was 10 years ago though. I thought about picking them back up, but are they decent books? People that like them, what's some other stuff you like to kinda gauge our tastes?

After Winters' book I read "Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War".

Now I'm on to "D-Day: June 6, 1944: The Battle for the Normandy Beaches" by Ambrose.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane a 2013 fantasy novel by British author Neil Gaiman.

So far I'm about 12 chapters into the book, and I think it is excellent. I can't wait to read more!

I've never read the book, but you are right according to the movie version. I'd assume the book is the same. There's a little bit more to it than just figuring out "who dun it" though...outcomes of a few of the characters (again, according to the movie).

The brother is losing his #1 to the dead girl and he has a crazy friend.

So I finally decided to start reading this Dostoyevsky Ive had sitting for years on my shelf. Now Im about 150 pages into "Crime and Punishment", its perhaps a little bit melodramatic, but, overall, thus far, a very nice little story. I find it hard to put down, and have been very much enjoying my time reading it.
