I've always wondered whether there's a point in people's lives (I'm thinking of an age) where they stop reading self-help books. I mean if you're 50 and you're still trying to find the true inner-you, you ain't never going to find it.
The Dark Tower. Book 3.
I'm not really into it. I thought I would enjoy the series, but at this point I'm almost ready to give up. I guess I'm not into fantasy. I'm more of a sci-fi fan.
Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey (pen name of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck).
Was in the mood for some SciFi and it fits the bill. Pretty well written and an engaging story.
Reread Zelazny's original Amber series (hence the nick) and currently reading the second.
Lots of good suggestions in this thread. I have lots of book suggestions to check out.
Just read the entire Matador Series by Steve Perry. Was started in the mid 80's and has a number of books that are all good reads on their own.
From the wiki:
The Matador series[edit]
The Matador series chronicles the birth, evolution, victory, and aftermath of a rebellion which overthrows a corrupt and declining interstellar government ("The Confederation") based on Earth. The Matador series features a fictional martial art known as "Sumito" or "The 97 Steps". Many of the non-English words and place names are actually in the Esperanto language.

Books I've finished in the last month or so, and what I thought of them:
Richard Kadrey Devil in the Dollhouse - This is a Amazon Short story about Sandman slim, set just before the events in Devil Said Bang. I have to say I enjoyed this a lot more then Devil Said Bang.
Richard Kadrey Devil Said Bang - I think it was not quite as good as the other Sandman Slim novels. For the first time the main characters characteristic 'assholeishness' became grating. It started to feel like the author was just looking for ways that his main character can be a dick to everyone around him.
Pierce Anthony Under a Velvet Cloak - Incarnations of Immortality 8 . I loved the Incarnations serious as a young adult, and thought this would be a cool trip back into a world I loved. Boy was I wrong. Either Pierce has really lost his writing mojo, or I was a much less discriminating reader back that. Maybe I'll pick up On a Pale Horse later this month and re-read it to find out. Either way, I would not recommend this book even to someone that loved the series.
Kim Harrison The Undead Pool. Yes, I know, these books are paranormal romance, and this particular one was more so then most. It is a guilty pleasure, an ex-girlfriend got me reading these, and I think I like the books more then I ever liked her. So, what did I think of this installment? I think Ms Harrison has spent too much time writing on her Young Teen romance novels and it affected this book. Rachael Morgan, detective, bodyguard, general bad-ass, spent way more time whining and pining over men then normal in this book.
Paolo Bacigalupi The Windup Girl. I don't know what to think about this book. The author came very highly recommended by someone that I normally agree with their tastes in books. There was a lot of really cool ideas in the book, and great character writing, but overall the book was boring. It felt like I picked up a book in middle of a series where a lot of the terms and concepts had already been explained and I was expected to already know. The book spent too much time being enigmatic about things that all the characters already knew. This is made up for by the fact that the world he builds is both believable and terrifying. Overall, I would remember this book only if you really like hardcore science fiction novels.
So, that was it for June. I don't know what I'll read next, I'll be watching this thread for ideas.

I love Amber but the second series gets overly convoluted. If you haven't read Zelazny's Lord of Light it's an absolute must-read. In the beginning it will seem a bit slow and you won't have the faintest idea what the heck is going on but by the end you are like "holy crap that was amazing."
Now starting The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I've been on a fantasy kick lately, and looking forward to this series, though I know the third book hasn't been completed yet.

$3 kindle...N41.Started reading "The Shadow Of What Was Lost" (The Licanius Trilogy Book 1) by James Islington. I'd say I'm about a third into the book and so far I'm liking it. I'm a big fan of Game of Thrones, Kingkiller Chronicles, The First Law Trilogy, Wheel of Time (which was way too long BTW), , etc. So far this book is right in that wheelhouse. I would recommend people to give it a shot!
