I'm working on two books:

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl

Bob Dylan: Chronicles Volume 1
Have set aside the Dylan for now because I own the book but Anne Frank's diary is on loan. The diary of Anne Frank gets better and better. After all, she's matured a lot in the less than two years transpired, is almost 15. What a great book! I see insights in there about things I've heard about but never seen discussed. I've got about 40% of it left unread. Just finished entry dated March 2, 1944.

Edit 12/13/16 -- This book gets better and better. I can think of no book that compares for deep insights in human interactions. This beats any non-fiction I can think of. Shakespeare might be comparable, my preference in general is non-fiction. I'm finding myself coping quotes from it, saving them for later use. Here's a few:

"The people who come from outside bring us a lot of news that later proves to be untrue; however, up to now our radio has never lied." - The diary of Anne Frank, entry March 27, 1944

Riches, prestige, everything can be lost. But the happiness in your own heart can only be dimmed; it will always be there, as long as you live, to make you happy again. - Anne Frank

As long as you can look fearlessly at the sky, you'll know that you're pure within and will find happiness once more. - Anne Frank

Slowly working through Pynchon's "Inherent Vice" and also started re-reading John Locke's "Second Treatise on Government".

I mostly read works on war and politics. Recently I finished two excellent spy novels by former CIA operative Jason Mathews, best I've read , except perhaps for The Company by R Littell which is absolutely brilliant. Also read Close Quarter Battle an SAS recount and am in the middle of Dictator by Robert Harris, a quasi biographical account of the last twenty five years of the life of Cicero and his political battles with my current avatar, J Caesar.

I decided to conclude some 'unfinished business' and picked up a book that I started reading at secondary school, except the entire class hated it halfway through and asked for another book, and the teacher acquiesced.

The book was 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury. It's a 1984-genre book. The ending was hard work but I would rate it as one of the best books I've read as it was quite poignant. I'm having difficulty putting into words much of what I feel about it without reeling off sentences I've heard many times before that describe books like this, but in this genre I would say that this book and 1984 are both worthwhile to read.

That's weird that they all hated it. Fahrenheit 451 was a great little book.

Effing 200 page St. John's First Aid Reference Guide. Need it for professional reasons and finally found an evening online + classroom course. At least it's only $3 on Kindle.

That book is one of the most famous in the Sci Fi genre. It was probably beyond those kids at that time. Good on you for not giving up on it.

Finished "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" on audiobook. I'm now listening to the audiobook of Beyond Band of Brothers - The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters. A must for any fan of Band of Brothers, World War II history, etc. It kind of follows BoB (the stories) but it does include some more details and focuses, of course, primarily on Winters. What a man he was.

Reading A Frozen Hell: The Russo-Finnish Winter War of 1939-1940. Pretty self-explanatory. I like it but it's hard for me to keep track of everything, especially with all the Finnish names. It doesn't help that the Kindle version is complete shit when it comes to the pictures because you cannot zoom in at all on them.

Great book. Enjoyed it more than BoB to be honest. Stephen Ambrose can get a bit...technical and too detail oriented for my liking sometimes. It becomes tedious.

I'm currently reading "Pandemic" by Sonia Shah. More like a history of cholera with some other stuff put in there too. It's okay...

Finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane --a very short book, but I thought it was very good. Recommended for anyone into fantasy.

Now starting The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I've been on a fantasy kick lately, and looking forward to this series, though I know the third book hasn't been completed yet.
Even I read the same book

Listening to the Steve Jobs biography by Issacson via Audible. It's pretty excellent though I'm not a huge fan of the reader. He's not terrible... but meh, I think he adds emphasis and drama where it isn't necessary needed but whatever, it's a minor criticism. The book itself is quite good. I also found it funny when Jobs (often) refers to others' work as "complete shit" or "total shit." LOL, I would've laughed if he said that to me.

I'm on the last few pages of book 5 of "Game of Thrones"/"A Song of Ice and Fire", "A Dance with Dragons." I didn't realize I was at the end until last night;
I thought it was gonna contain Jon Snow's death, but the chapter I was reading ended with Daenerys getting taken by the khalasar and I flicked to the next page and bam: I see "Epilogue." NOOOOOO! /vader
. Man I can't wait for the next (final?) book! Jeez probably the thing I look to most during the day is nighttime and getting in bed and reading the ASIF books, lol (yes I'm a loser).

Still reading The Winter War book on my phone/Kindle but I'm nearing the end. It's good but as I mentioned before the Finnish character and place names are crazy. I fucking wish every book allowed you to zoom in on pictures but I've found hardly any do. I just bought a newer published book like last weekend, on user interface design/development, and in that book too you can't zoom in on pictures. Fucking ridiculous.

Yeah that is right I read it. Came up in a conversation with a co-worker who's wife reads lots of smut. He didn't believe they were real so I had him looked them up on amazon and noticed a bunch of that author's trash is free with Kindle Unlimited right now. At only 19 pages I couldn't resist reading one lol. It got me so hot I think I'm going to read the triceratops one next.

The Wolves of War by Greg Curtis
Just some fantasy series that was also free with Kindle Unlimited. Just started it but so far no dino sex so it hasn't been that great.

Finished "Dance with Dragons." So sad... God I love those books so much. I'm pooping myself in anticipation of the new season.

So now I started reading "Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do" by Vanderbilt. I started reading it after I bought it but never got too far.

My current Kindle book is The Passage by Justin Cronin. I'm not quite halfway through and it's been getting harder to put down.

My current audio book is The Dead Hand about the nightmare speeding freight train that the arms buildup between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R almost became, and what was done to stop it.

My IRL book is Mating in Captivity, addressing the esteemed American tradition of a sexless marriage. It deals with a TON of interesting issues like why sex tends to be so much more exciting in the early stages of a relationship, the often misunderstood relationship between intimacy and sex, and the necessity of both parties to retain their self-ness in order to continue keeping both parties engaged. Highly recommended and I'm not even finished.

So much for re-reading "Traffic." I gave up again, lol. I can be rather fickle when it comes to books or movies or tv shows. I just can lose interest really easily, and it's not even because the particular thing is so bad, I dunno, it just doesn't tickle my pickle so-to-speak.

I've been listening to Relentless Strike: The Secret History of Joint Special Operations Command on Audible audiobook and it's good.

Also I just started reading book four of the "Borrowed World" series by Franklin Horton, "No Time For Mourning." I like these apocalypse/TEOTWAWKI books and this author can actually write unlike a lot of them (books full of spelling and grammar errors, reads like it was written by an 8 year old, etc). "The Survivalist" series by Bradley is also good and written well; that series might be my favorite.

Cue the awesome reviews....

A fascinating allegory depicting the need of all women to individuate from the demands of a paternal social structure. One can't help, obviously, but draw parallels beween Sims' Drin and Emma of Flaubert's classic "Madame Bovary." A dinosaur phallus here serves as a symbol of the female's uncomfortable relationship with the demands of society - dependent upon it even as she seeks to escape it. There are some clear historical inaccuracies, however, and one wishes the author had done slightly more research instead of relying on trite stereotypes. For instance, the generalizations made about a belligerent, warlike relationship between cave people and dinosaurs, when, in reality, they co-existed quite peacefully, even pooling crops and medical supplies during times of famine. But, as Voltaire said, the perfect is the enemy of the good. And despite its small imperfections "Taken by a Dinosaur" is an important work, with as much to say about the future of mankind as it says about its past.

But in all seriousness I just finished the Shadow Ops trilogy by Myke Cole. It's not earth shatteringly good literature, but it was a good read if you like the x-men / mutant / magic storylines.
