Wool is awesome. I love how you totally get the rug pulled out from under you at the end of the first book. I can't wait for Dust.

Mercury, Mining, and Empire: The Human and Ecological Cost of Colonial Silver Mining in the Andes by Robins, a book I started reading while hanging out in the library waiting for a meeting to start.

Just finished the book; very well written. Plot summary: people suck.
http://www.amazon.com/Mercury-Mining...dp/0253356512/

Now reading The Light of Burning Shadows: Book Two of the Iron Elves - Chris Evans. The first book was good with an engaging lead character.

Xenocide by Orson Scott Card - third book in the Ender series

Not nearly as good as the first two books, but a decent read. However...

Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card - which I finished before this was freaking great. Easily on par with Ender's Game, and happens to occur at the same time. It's about Bean, another child that trained with Ender, and is really fantastic.

Oops, forgot to update this thread. I finished World War Z, which was good. I have no idea what's going to be in the movie, but if I could choose, it would be an expanded version of the two interlocking stories with the Japanese guys - the one shut-in hacker and the other who was blinded by the nuke.

Then I read The End - Visions of the Apocalypse which is a free collection of short "end of the world" stories on Amazon. The first story is by Hugh Howey of Wool, though it wasn't one of my favorites in that collection.

Now I'm starting Captain Vorpatril's Alliance, which is the latest Vorkosigan novel. However, this one focuses on Ivan rather than Miles.

I forgot how good Bujold is. I've been laughing my ass off reading this since the wedding. If you haven't read this series, check it out, starting at the beginning. If you've read the rest but not this and have qualms because this book doesn't star Miles, don't worry, it's still good.

Just finished "A Rumor of War" by Philip Caputo. Great book. Caputo's writing really appeals to me, and I found it to be more like prose/literature than just a nonfiction book full of facts and figures. I've read a lot of war books (mainly about Vietnam and WWII) and found this one to be my favorite read thus far.

Think I'm gonna start rereading ASOIAF. I tried to get into Wheel of Time (on number four, The Shadow Rising), but I can't stay into it. Seems boring to me

A Dance with Dragons - Book 5 of Game of Thrones by George RR Martin.

Really like the series, but I had to take a break from the rape/murder/torture/pillage after reading the first 4 in a row. I think this is the best so far!

Just started reading Lord Foul's Bane by Stephen R. Donaldson

If this is your first read, prepare yourself for a treat. Donaldson is one of the best F/SF writers in the world. Everything he has written is amazing.

Finished reading Captain Vorpatril's Alliance, now starting the Domination (Draka) trilogy by SM Stirling. This starts as an alternate history novel in World War 2, where an empire based out of South Africa has become a world power alongside the US and Germany.

Just finished Book 5. Took me almost a year to read all of them in a row. almost 8000 pages

Have to say with no spoilers I was disappointed in the end of the last book, but now I can't wait for him to publish Book 6.

Moving on now to the Strain series by Guillermo Del Toro

I'm currently reading the last of Jack L Chalker's Well World novels, Ghost of the Well of Souls. It's the sequel to The Sea is Full of Stars, and it took the series in a totally different direction by leaving out Mavra Chang and Nathan Brazil.
