What breed is my dog?

So I got this puppy a few weeks ago. He's awesome and is so cute, but I can't figure out what breed he is. The people who I got him from had him for less than a week before they couldn't keep him anymore for whatever reason. I don't know where they got him from but they told me he was a lab/pomeranian mix. Well I've looked up that mix online and he looks nothing like that.

Then I took him to the vet where they previously took him and their records showed he was a pitbull pomeranian mix.

I can't figure it out. He looks kind of like a lab, and he also looks kind of like a pitbull, but he's 12 weeks old and only weigh's 7 pounds. He's tiny. He is also this mahogany color. At first glance he looks black but on close inspection half his fur is brown. I've got a few closeups that reflect this. I've never seen a lab this color but he's too dark to be a brindle pit bull. His entire body is this color except for a white mark on his chest and two rear toe's.

What do you guys think? More pics below.

I don't know much about dogs, but my guess would be pitbull lab.

Pitbull mix. So, the previous owners took him to your vet also?

a pitbull/lab mix wouldnt be 7 lbs at 12 weeks
Exactly, that mix would probably be 25-30 pounds at that age.

My back door neighbors got a puppy that is a blue heeler/lab mix that is only 2 weeks older and their dog is 3 times bigger at least. This dog looks microscopic next to their puppy.

Pit/Chihuahua or pit/boston terrier. He has that vaguely bug-eyed look. I don't think he'd have such a short coat if he were pom cross.

That is without a doubt a Jack Russell terrier mix. Look at the stance and I knew the ears would be specific to a breed. Looked up pics of Jack Russell terriers and there were those ears.

Size is about right too.

I think you're on to something. This got me looking and maybe he's a patterdale terrier.

He looks very similar to those dogs and even has the same color.

And thanks for all the compliments. He'll be a lot of fun whether he's full grown at 15 pounds or 85 pounds.

To some extent, in my experience, as a lifetimes dog owner, pure bred dogs are far more predictable than mixed breed dogs. But if you train your dog to be human friendly you are well ahead of the game. And almost all hunting breeds are hardwired to be human friendly.

In short, your dog will be what you make him. Just make sure that you expose him to other humans and not to only your family. As for the size of your dog, I would more guess an adult size of under 50 pounds. But its not the size of the dog but the size of its character.

And did I forget to mention, cats are cool too.

That's a handsome animal. I'm confident that the time you put into training him will pay off for you.

While I'm not familiar with any of them, I Googled Dog Breed DNA Test, and found that many organisations are selling DNA test kits. Depending on how interested you are, you might want to look into that...

Best of luck,

In the end it doesn't really matter. He looks to be a cool dog, just love him and enjoy his company!

good looking dog, reminds me of my dog. He was small as hell when I first got him and people kept asking if he was a lab even though he had tiny paws.

EDIT: this is after he grew bigger, now you would not confuse him for a lab

Here is how he looked when he was younger
