This is driving me nuts. We have these large bug bites that have been occurring overnight. They make welts about the size of a dime but don't "look" skeeter bites. It seems the most irritated area is the hair follicle, the bites almost resemble an ingrown hair or ticked off follicle.

Get maybe 3-5 new ones a night and they itch terribly. I first thought fleas as the dog was boarded a week ago. If you must know the warmest parts of the body are where they are - groin, ankles, back of knee, lower abdomen. Skeeters are pretty bad out on my deck but maybe a few are munching on us.

Have a pic of the bites to use as a reference?

I was going to say dust mites, but I don't think they leave welts that big.

Dear lord don't let it be bedbugs. Everything I've read says they don't leave bites this big and are much more numerous.

Bed bugs. Go buy some JD Eaton Kills Bed Bugs II spray. It's toxic stuff, but it's water based so it won't stain if you spray it on stuff. Apply it liberally around your baseboards, box spring, wall outlets, heat vents - any cracks the bugs could slip into and sleep. Check your mattress that there are no holes in it. Mattresses are usually sealed pretty well against bed bugs. If there are holes in the mattress I'd spray some stuff in the hole, and then seal the hole with packaging tape.

Also go put anything you can in the dryer on hot for 40 mins, should kill em.

I did this whole process 2x and it solved my bed bug problem.

edit: BTW the reason I'm 100% sure they are bed bugs is they are the itchiest bites I've EVER had. They would swell up to the size of a dime/quarter, and would last about 3 days.

Thanks. If it's bedbugs I don't see how we got them other than the dog.

The key indicator is the irritated follicle, like that's where the bug us feeding.

Based on your personal hygiene habits it could be anything but most likely bed bugs.

It's an allergic reaction to all the moldy money you have stuffed in your mattress!

If you rent your landlord may be obligated to hire an exterminator for you depending on local laws.

If it keeps up after we've sterilized our bedding I'm calling an exterminator. Came from the dog or the hotel we stayed at cedar point.

Most likely the hotel, I've never heard of a dog transmitting bed bugs but have heard there are dogs that can sniff and detect bed bugs.

Bingo - I've seen a few stories that people have gone to places and returned not knowing that there were bed bugs hanging out in their luggage.

Ugh this is making my skin crawl. Always have a flea infestation, and I'm the only one who cares about the issue.
Sometimes I can't sleep at night cause I keep feeling them. Even if there's not fleas on me, still creeps me out n makes me itch.

Flea bites tend to be small, so it doesn't sound like those.

Either way, I hope you get to the bottom of things soon!

If it's bed bugs, get an exterminator that uses trained scent dogs to ID/smell the nesting place out. Without knowing where they nest, the excessive fumigation/other methods may not get rid of them.

Bed bug scent dogs will target the problem with 100% effectiveness.

we had this problem a couple years ago... a few new ones every night. We inspected the entire room including the mattress with a fine tooth comb and saw no bed bugs (which are supposed to be visible). Nothing... we did notice a few jumping bugs... it was fleas... somehow we got them and they do bite humans. We did the soapy water under a light trap and caught nothing... flea bomb'd the room and eventually the biting stopped. I think we just got lucky at the end though... not supposed to be that easy getting rid of them.

you could also flea bomb the house, might be worth the small investment
